Alot of people are wondering where is this park money from the Ruth Stealey Green Fund? It certainly has not been going to the park where its supposed to go....so what is happening to it??? A slide breaks in the park, and to fix it they put duct tape on the slide.... The steps to the playground equipment are lose, to fix it they put a piece of wood under the step.... The volleyball court net is broken and sags... A couple swings are broken... The tennis court is un-usable and a joke... So this money which is guaranteed every year to the park most be going somewhere else...so the question on everyone's mind, where is this money going?

WE will be doing some more work down at the City Park this Spring and Summer! If anyone is interested in helping! There will be signs posted at the post office and the gas station in town. If you have any questions you can contact anybody that works for the City Park. 304-758-4469 or 304-758-4771

One needs to realize that anything put in the park the town of Middlebourne is liable for. Those who felt they had wonderful ideas may not have passed the test by the town's legal advisor. It is unfortunate, but in this day and age municipalities have to protect themselves and some great projects just may not pass the liability test. In support of the current situation, I have lived in Middlebourne for 50+ years, and the park is in the best shape it has ever been. Don't forget it is in a flood zone, so only so much can be done!

I have never seen a request for volunteers and I know the people on the Park Board. None of them have ever indicated that they needed or wanted help!

Volunteers were asked to help put timbers up and pea gravel down.....and guess what there were only 4 people that volunteer! So like was said before if you are not going to volunteer.........then DON'T criticize!

Volunteer? Help improve on? Evidently you don't know the people in charge of the Park. They don't want volunteers nor do they want to improve the facilities. Several years ago they were approached about improvements to the Park as well as adding a few other things. Those of us that wanted to help were shot down. There have been some improvements, but there is a lot more to do and the Park Board needs to be more open to suggestions and assistance.

As I have stated before, I have lived here all my life & I can tell you the park is a lot better now than it used to be. The old plain chain swings over mud puddles, one high metal sliding board & a few splintered seesaws. Now the swings are different kinds to accomodate different ages,a swirled slide, a gym w/slide, a dommed monkey bar climber, painted seesaws, a sand pit, a couple of the spring ride ons, and most recently, the frames added around the swings & filled with pea gravel. And of course the restrooms, and shelter. I dont know if the drinking fountain is fixed or not but I can remember how kids would waste water by just playing in it & even adults would go there & fill jugs of water to avoid buying it. That could be the reason there is no working fountain. But it has improved greatly over the last 40 years so like Volplz said...Volunteer to help. Maybe even form a "Friends of the Park" group...but don't be so critical of something you could hel

I want to start off by saying the Park Funds are public information and if you are really concerned about how they are spent you can read the books and see for yourself how everything is spent. Second the park is making improvements, but it has to be done a little at a time. Seeing that there are not any volunteers to help improve the park a few people can only do so much. Also the town employees do not work for the park they are a separate entity. What it all comes down to is if you would like to see more improvements……VOLUNTEER! Help your community out! Don’t be the first to criticize if you are not active in your community!

Also, we should keep in mind that the Park Board has a history of fighting against any improvements to the City Park. Their biggest interest lies in keeping the gazebo and the outdoor court at the Old Ellsworth building updated. I guess since the city park is at the lower end of town and not too many people see it that they don't need to do anything.

I grew up in Middlebourne. My family has lived by the City Park for over 30 years and as a child and an adult have enjoyed the Parks facilities. A recent trip to the park showed a clean bathroom with all the paper products and soap, cut grass, clean shelter and lots of fun for the kids. The playground equipment has been there since I was little and does need to be updated or changed. If the Stealey Green Fund is supposed to help with upkeep, I, too would like to know in what way. I would also like to know how the fees are used that the city charges when someone uses the shelter or fields.

catlover2, i bet you let your kids fill the bathrooms with gravel. Why spend money to fix things if irresponsible parents allow their kids to destroy things.

The location of the Middlebourne Park is in the lower part of the town and has been destroyed by kids for as long as I can remember. If something new is purchased, it is destroyed soon after. New bathrooms were filled with gravel. Building broke into. The park money is used at the Stealey Community Center where it is taken care of.
