Senator Byrd Dies at 92
Posts: 1 Category: Tyler Message Boards
West Virginia has lost it's longest serving Senator. Many believe he did a great job for the state while others argue he should have left long ago or that he was too old. No matter what side of the coin you are on you have to admit he was a man that loved politics, his family and West Virginia. Regardless of our feelings towards his public and political life, he is leaving behind a legacy of historical significance not only for our state but for the country in general. view post

winning tyler county "essay"

The winning "essay" sponsored by the GOP looked more like a report copied from the internet than a well thought out essay. This was the best submission from 59 entries? That's hard to believe... view post
Relay for Life - American Cancer Society
Posts: 2 Category: Tyler Message Boards
Have you ever attended a Relay for Life? If not I encourage you to come join us for our own Tyler Co. RFL on June 25th starting at 6:00 pm at the Knights football field. You don't have to be a walker to be a part of the activities. There are games, food, music, socializing, and showing support for cancer survivors and honoring those whose lives were cut short due to cancer. A luminaria ceremony held just after dark will touch your heart and you will understand why we work so hard to support cancer survivors and raise money to fight cancer. "There is no finish line until we find a cure." Please plan to attend. You don't have to be on a team to participate. And if you want to join a team let me know. We'd love to have you. view post
Summer Memories
Posts: 4 Category: Tyler Message Boards
Reading the various posts on here are entertaining, informative, & at the least, thought provoking. That's why I started this one. Just to enjoy a few minutes, recall memories of summers gone by & share those with others. As a child, I remember catching lightening bugs (though mom said not to kill them) playing dark tag, riding bikes or even just sitting in the yard with friends talking, and never wanting to go inside. These innocent times flood back every summer & I wish the children of today could find the enjoyment in the simple things as we once did. What are some of YOUR summer memories? view post
Fire Truck uesed to bring couples to prom

I do not think our community fire truck should be used to parade couple to the prom. What if it would be involved in a fender bender or god forbid a fire. view post
No Tourist $ for Tyler
Posts: 11 Category: Tyler Message Boards
The 2010 WV Travel guide does not have any mention of any events or anything at all regarding Tyler County. At least previous year issues mentioned the ferry! Why doesn't any of the event organizers (O&G, Marble, Sistersfest, etc...) submit events for our area? Do they realize that tourist money is good for the local economy? Any thoughts? view post
Middlebourne TV Cable Co

What is your thoughts ? I had to go to DirecTV because the quality and channel choices were bad. I dont watch that much tv but when i do watch it i want to be able to see what i am watching ! I liked having Suddenlink in Charleston because of the high speed internet and the video on demand was great. They also seemed to have a lot of Pay per view titles that were available before the stores. Anyway we could ban together to get them in the area ? view post
Finally a hero gets well deserved respect.

Hats off to all those responsible for the procession and services held this past week for WWII hero 2nd Lt. Jack Arnett who gave his life while serving our country. Not only did the "one who gave all" get the recognition he deserved but it also reminded us off all the others who also did. With Memorial Day coming soon let's not forget the true reason for the holiday while we enjoy our family get-togethers, picnics, trips, etc. Sometime during the holiday weekend let's try to take time to honor these heroes. It's the least we can do. view post

Middlebourne Park

Alot of people are wondering where is this park money from the Ruth Stealey Green Fund? It certainly has not been going to the park where its supposed to go....so what is happening to it??? A slide breaks in the park, and to fix it they put duct tape on the slide.... The steps to the playground equipment are lose, to fix it they put a piece of wood under the step.... The volleyball court net is broken and sags... A couple swings are broken... The tennis court is un-usable and a joke... So this money which is guaranteed every year to the park most be going somewhere else...so the question on everyone's mind, where is this money going? view post
ON TRAC or Tyler Alive
Posts: 0 Category: Tyler Message Boards
Okay, can someone explain to me if there is a difference? This week's Star News has the Tyler Alive column and the information is all about Sistersville ON TRAC and their activities and nothing about activities in TYLER! This organization is either for the WHOLE county or they need to change their name! view post
Downed Trees

I wish someone could explain to me why they leave behind debris and large tree stumps when a tree falls onto the road! If you are going to remove it from the road, take the whole thing and not just parts of it! view post
Documentary
Posts: 0 Category: Tyler Message Boards
Hi all, I have to apologize to anyone who may have read my first post about coming to Middlebourne to do a documentary and may have been interested in taking part. I thank you for your interest but I have to postpone this project due to a family emergency. I still want to do this, but it looks like maybe July or August would work out-- from my end. Thank you again for your interest and I'll keep you all posted as to when I can get down there. Barb Rippon view post
The Arts
Posts: 6 Category: Tyler Message Boards
I find it interesting that art, music and drama are being slowly taken out of the schools yet we have such talented children and adults in our community. I enjoyed the positive stories about the Keplinger girl and the Grover boy. Both of them have exceptional talent along with many other people in our community. We all enjoy a good laugh, a beautiful photo or piece of artwork and a good musical work - so why are we allowing the school systems and the government to take all of this away from our kids and from us? view post
Documentary

My name is Barb Rippon and I'm a college student at Community College of Vermont. I am planning on creating a documentary of your town and I'll be there starting March 13, 2010. Why? I am originally from Wheeling, yup, I graduated from WPHS in 1984 and I've always loved my state, but the neatest thing about Middlebourne is the way the town has always been sort of middleground when it comes to so many things. My documentary is about why people voted, or not, for Barack Obama. This is your chance to have a say about what you were thinking when you went to voting booth. My project is strictly for educational purposes and you can be totally anonymous if you want, but, I will be in Middlebourne most of the week of March 13- 18, 2010 and I'll have some surveys you can mail back to me and my camera, recorder and video if you would like to give an interview. Mt e-mail is: barbrippon@yahoo**** Thank you. view post

Walk your cart either to the "cart corral" or back to the front of the store, don't just leave them scattered all over the parking lot! Such laziness! view post
School's Out for Winter!!!

Just when are the kids going to get back to school??? If the TCBofE would come up with a school calender that did not take off a week at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, and a week at Easter, we would not be in this situation now. They missed two days in November due to swine flu. Then, they had all week off at Thanksgiving. Wetzel just took Wednesday off. Figure in all those In service days, and Facality Senate Meetings and there is no way on God's green earth that the kids get the manditory 180 days in between Aug 26 and June 8. The kids need an education to keep up with the rest of the world. ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP IS ENOUGH!!!! view post
