Lisa Jackson Announces Candidacy For Tyler County Assessor

May 13, 2020
Tyler Star News

My name is Lisa Jackson and I am running for the office of Tyler County Assessor. I was appointed Assessor in November 2018 to fulfill the unexpired term of the late Jackson L Hayes, so this is the first time that I have been an "official candidate" for the office. I believe that I am Tyler County's First Female Assessor. I started working in the Assessor's Office in September of 1992 having served as Chief Deputy prior to my appointment.

I am a graduate of Paden City High School. I married my high school sweetheart (Tyler County High graduate) Tim Jackson in 1979. Tim and I moved to Middlebourne in 1986 with our two children, Amanda Jackson Himmelwright and Luke Jackson. Amanda and her husband, Adam; Luke and his husband, Andy; Granddaughters Grace and Evelyn and Granddogs Aiden and Gabby complete our immediate family.

I currently serve as Chairman of the Tyler County 911 Advisory Board and I am a member of the Tyler County Search and Rescue & CERT Teams. I attend St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Martinsville and Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Paden City.

Lisa Jackson announces candidacy for Tyler County Assessor.

The primary responsibility of being assessor is to follow the state codes which mandate that real estate and personal properties are to be assessed both fairly and equitably.

My staff and I go to great lengths to answer taxpayer's questions so that they have a better understanding on how their property valuations are determined. We take every question seriously there are no silly questions.

Our office continues the traditional method of assessing personal property by mailing out assessment cards. But, in keeping up with modern technology, we are currently looking into implementing an 'online' filing program for personal property assessments as well as for the Farm Discount Applications. We now have a Tyler County Assessor's Facebook page to help get information out to the taxpayers as well as placing articles in the Tyler Star News.

In February 2020, the updating of our GIS mapping system was completed. You can find Tyler County GIS maps and map cards on line at tylercountywv.com on the Assessor's Page. We will continue a 'leaf off' flyover which is done in the early spring of every year as another method of ensuring our GIS maps reflect the latest updates and information for the current tax year.

The volume of oil, gas and mineral production in Tyler County has greatly increased the work load in all parts of our office, so along with my dedicated and experienced office staff, I continue to key data entry, along with my duties of assessor.

I have always loved my job working in the Assessor's Office. If elected, I will continue to serve the people of Tyler County with the knowledge, dedication and experience that I have gained throughout my time in the Assessor's Office. I ask that you please consider casting your vote for me, Lisa Jackson, for Tyler County Assessor. Thank you.
