Students will have something big to look forward to upon returning to school this fall. The new sports complex is already in the works and the football field is expected to be completed by August 21, just in time for Friday night football games.

Tyler County Schools are moving forward on a project that includes a complete revamp of the football field, baseball and softball fields, and the track. The total project is reported to have cost 10 million dollars, with funding coming from the taxpayers of Tyler County. "We are very appreciative of that," said Superintendent Shane Highley.

Highley reports the construction is being done by City Construction out of Clarksburg. There is a lot of work being done, including new bleachers, a new heated press box, an eight lane track with a new surface, new dugouts and turf in both the baseball and softball fields, and new scoreboards. "We're going to have a new state of the art lighting system that's going to be really cool," said Highley. He continued by stating that there will be press boxes behind the backstops with audio and video capabilities so players can be announced at baseball and softball games.

Construction has begun on the new sport facilities at Tyler Consolidated.

Highley reports the expected completion date for the football field and track is August 21. "We're cutting it right up against football season but we feel confident we will be able to get it done as long as mother nature plays along with us," Highley said. Following the completion of the football field and track, Highley says they will begin major construction on the baseball and softball fields to have them completed by Spring.

"The dressing rooms are going to be still the same up behind the press box," he reports. "Our goal in the to build a new field house between the football field and the baseball field, and then that building will be, of course, locker rooms, weight room facilities, things like that," reports Highley.

As for seating capacity, the new bleachers are reported to seat 3,500 fans on the home side. "We will have enough seating that we would be able to hold a AA playoff there at the facility," says Highley.
