Sistersville Will Come Alive March 13,14 with Sisters Fest

March 4, 2020
Tyler Star News

Sistersville will come alive March 13 and 14 as the 21st annual Sisters Fest is held as a celebration of sisterhood and friendship.

All women age 16 and over are invited to come join in the fun that can be explained as having all the fun of your childhood sleepovers without the acne cream you needed as a teenager. This year's event has a theme of "Sisters Without a Clue" - taking its cues from the classic board game.

While the weekend celebrates sisters, like the Wells sisters who established Sistersville, the event is for all women-sisters and "sisterfriends" as they are often called at Sisters Fest.

This group photo was taken a few years ago when Sisters Fest had a 1980’s theme.

The fun begins on Friday at the Gaslight Theater on Wells Street. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and continues as the appetizer and dessert contest gets underway at 7 p.m. Sisters are asked to bring an appetizer/dessert to share in the contest. Each food entered gets the cook entered into a drawing for a $25 prize. Participants will taste and vote for their favorites in the categories of best appetizer, best dessert, and best themed food. Prizes for those will be given at Saturday's banquet.

At 8 p.m. the fun will move to the second-floor theater (an elevator is available) for the variety show where groups are invited to perform. This fun-loving event can be filled with silly skits to serious songs. The point is to have fun and be entertained. There is no judging of entries. Following all of the acts, the movie "Clue" will be shown.

The Elks Lodge is welcoming all Sisters Fest participants to their bar during the weekend. Many will undoubtedly gather there after the Gaslight Theater activities on Friday and after the banquet on Saturday.

Saturday begins with breakfast in the Elks Lodge Ballroom at 9 a.m. and continues while the always popular "How well do you know your sister?" Game Show begins at 9:30 a.m. In this laughter-filled event the women pair off to answer questions about their sisters or sisterfriends in a style similar to The Newlywed Game.

There is not an organized luncheon this year, giving sisters a chance to explore the town and its offerings as they would like. In the afternoon there is a Paint 'n Sip at the Gaslight Theater from 1-4 p.m. (you must provide your own beverage to sip) and an Escape Room in the Elks Ballroom from 1-3 p.m. At 4 p.m. the "Clue" movie will be shown again at the Gaslight Theater. Also, sisters are encouraged to fellowship at the Bankers Corner Coffee Shop until 6 p.m.

Before the 7 p.m. banquet in the Elks Ballroom all attendees are encouraged to gather for a big group photo at 6:45 p.m. on the front steps of the First Presbyterian Church. If weather does not permit the outdoor photo, it will be taken inside the Elks Ballroom.

The Elks always prepare a delicious meal and this year is sure to delight too. The menu is stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and dessert.

Throughout the weekend there will be a Chinese auction. All women who bring an item to be part of this fundraiser for the event will be given tickets to be entered into the drawings for items of their choice. Also, anyone who brings a first-time attendee will be entered into a drawing for $25.

The cost for attending Sisters Fest is done in an ala carte fashion. There is a basic registration fee of $12 that is required to attend any Sisters Fest event. While events are part of that basic registration, some events require an additional fee. Breakfast is $7, the Paint 'n Sip is $25, and the banquet is $16. There are also some t-shirts available for $15 each. However, the availability of the extra events and t-shirts may be limited, so pre-registration is encouraged. Registration can be mailed to Sisters Fest, P.O. Box 132, Sistersville, WV 26175. For more information or to arrange online registration find the Facebook event Sisters Fest 2020 or call Sherri Hostuttler 304-775-4155 or 610-905-4489.
