Senior night and honoring three seniors was the theme of the night on Tuesday when the Knights hosted Robert C. Byrd and Cameron for a tri-match. Playing in their last regular season home game were seniors Madison DeVaughn, Allie Miller and Summer Miller, all starters as well as four-year letter winners for the Silver Knights.

Following pre-game ceremonies, the Knights were pitted against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles from Clarksburg. In the early going, the Knights were slow to recover from the emotional senior ceremony and fell behind 6-2 before eventually narrowing the gap at 9-7. However, the Knights would not be able to gain the lead and lost set one 25-15. In the second set, TCHS gave Byrd all they wanted as the lead went back and forth between both teams, but the Flying Eagles ended up with the win 25-23.

In the final match of the night, the Knights proved to be far too much for Cameron, winning easily by scores of 25-12, 25-10. “Senior Nights are emotional times for all involved and against a team as strong as RCB, you can’t be anything short of perfect. But I will say, we (the coaches) didn’t recover well either, as these are three special girls winding down their careers,” said Coach Summers.

On Thursday, the Knights hosted the Doddridge County Bulldogs in an LKC placement game. The Knights showed promising signs that they are peaking at the right time by winning all three sets in convincing fashion with scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-15. According to Coach Summers, “We are fully healthy and playing well at the right time. Doddridge plays a very tough schedule and we had to play well to beat them in three sets,” Summers noted. “They are a quality team with a good chance of being in Charleston.”

The Knights travel to Phillipi on Wednesday, Oct. 30, to take on Philip Barbour, Morgantown High, and Nicholas County before entering into sectional play on Monday. The Knights will play an opening round game against Paden City on Nov. 4 at 5:30 at Ritchie County High School.
