Paden City took to the Union Local High School floor on Saturday in search of their third straight OVAC Class A Championship and it didn’t take them long to establish dominance as they took down Frontier 25-14, 25-14, and 25-11.

The Wildcats Volleyball team used hustle, power hitting and pinpoint setting to keep the Cougars at bay as they improved their record to 24-4 on the season and handed second year coach Jennifer Yeater her second straight title. Paden City has now won the last three championships and if Yeater has anything to do with it they will be searching for number four when next year rollls along.

“It’s pretty sweet that we’ve been able to come here for three years and take care of business,” Paden City (24-4) coach Jennifer Yeater said. “We had two starters Mallory (Yeater) and Hope (Weber) have started since their freshman year. They’ve been apart of this, all three championships. It’s pretty sweet.”We work hard in the offseason and it shows during the regular season.”

The Cats jumped out to an early lead in set one taking a 12-2 that was to much for the Cougars to overcome as they went up 1-0, winning the net battle with 15 kills to Frontier’s six.

“Playing in the offseason helps,” Coach Yeater said. “I have four club players so keeping the volleyball in their hands is important, they have the right attitude and they have the right work ethic. They bring it to the table every day at practice.

Yeater said this group is a special bunch of kids who all play hard and work together. “They listen and follow what we teach, they have bought into the program and everyone of them is important to this team, I am so proud of each one of them.”

At time set two looked like it would be a battle as Frontier took the lead on a few occassions before the Wildcats got it together and came back to take the set with some great serving and floor play.

Even when they were down they never gave up and it paid off with another 25-14 win.

“That’s what knew what we had to do,” Coach Yeater said about starting fast. “We faced Frontier a couple other times throughout the season and we knew we had to get out to a strong start, keep the energy on our side and if we were able to do that, I knew we were going to be able to pull it off. They stepped up to the plate and kept that energy high. We needed some big hitters to come through Saturday and they did.”

The final set was all Paden City as they smelled victory from the start jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Frontier cut the lead to two but the Cats came up big with 15of the next 18 points to get the win.

Junior standouts Mallory Yeater, and Hope Weber led the charge as Yeater finished the match with 12 points, 17 digs, 9 assists, 4 kills, and one block, and Weber ended with 10 points, 17 kills, 14 digs, 5 assists and two blocks.

Senior Cora Anderson and Isabella Beverlin divided 18 points on the night with Anderson getting three aces and 13 digs. Beverlin added three digs. Freshman standout Tanley McEldowney had a game high 22 digs as she covered the floor with accuracy. She also served up four points. Maggi Still added 6 kills, a block and 5 digs for the Cats and McKenzie Thomas had a good match with 4 points, 5 kills, and 4 assists.
