Paden City Falls to Cameron, 19-6

October 9, 2019
Tyler Star News

Paden City turned the ball over eight times on Friday night against Cameron and the result was a 19-6 loss to the home team Dragons. The Wildcats trailed 7-6 and were within striking distance but the turnover bug cost them at least two big opportunities that could have made the result a different story.

Paden City Coach Zach Heasley felt his team played a good ball game especially on defense. "Defensively, I can't complain because we had our backs against the wall. When you turn the ball over six times the defense has to go back on the field and our effort was there all game long."

Despite the turnovers the Wildcats hung tough and at halftime were only down by one 7-6. The Cats got their score after senior quarterback Ethan Cross got an interception and then on the next play ran 33 yards down the left sideline for six points The extra point attempt was no good but the Cats were in the game.

After the break Cameron came out and put 12 points on the board on a 33 yard pass and a three yard run to seal the win. The Wildcats had a couple chances in the second half as they moved inside the red zone but a turnover and loss of downs stopped the drives.

Cross ended the contest with 163 yards rushing on 22 carries for a T.D., while completing 3-13 passes with two interceptions. Senior running back Clayton Thomas finished with 88 yards on 18 carries and had 26 yards receiving.

The Wildcats will be back in action looking for win number three this Friday as they entertain Clay Battelle at Berger Field in a 7 p.m. start. Look for the Cats to bounce back with a 21-20 victory and move to 3-4 on the season.
