Silver Knights drop opener to Ritchie

Rebels run wild in 58-20 win at home in Ellenboro

Homestanding Ritchie County took a quick 8-0 lead on a nine yard run and a 2-point conversion pass with only 1:35 off the first quarter clock and never trailed to hand Tyler Consolidated a surprise 58-20 opening season defeat.

The Silver Knights got the ball back after the initial score from the Rebels and put together a drive of their own that took three and a half minutes off the clock and ended with a one yard quarterback keeper by Gage Huffman to pull to within 8-6 after the point after failed. Ritchie however marched right back and added eight more with :29 left on the first quarter clock to go up 16-6. The Rebels scored again with 9:19 to play in the second on a five yard run from Owens his third of the game. Procacina added his third 2- point conversion and the score was 24-6.

Tyler got back in the game with 7:49 to play in the half when Senior Mark Rucker ripped off a 58 yard run and freshman Ty Walton added the 2-point conversion to make it a 10 point game 24-14. The Rebels up the score to 36-14 at the half after scoring on a 25 -yard pass with 1:34 to play and adding another with :26 to go on a 4-yard T.D.

With just 15 seconds off the third quarter clock the Rebels added a 54- yard T.D to give the home town boys a 42-14 lead. Four minutes later Rucker got his second T.D. of the game on a 1-yard run to pull to within 20 points, but that was as close as they got as Ritchie County tacked on two more scores and added both conversion runs to get the win by 28 points 58-20.

The Silver Knights finished with 285 yards rushing on 51 attempts and three touchdowns and was 1-5 passing for 19 yards. Ritchie had 3385 yards rushing on 39 attempts for six touchdowns. The Rebels were 6-8 passing for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The Knights had six penalties for 55 yards, while Ritchie was penalized eight times for 48 yards. Ritchie also fumbled three times and lost two.

Rucker led the Silver Knights with 186 yards rushing and two T.D's. Garrett Owens led Ritchie County with 174 yards on 17 carries and three T.D.'s, while Tre Moss added 117 yards on 14 carries for three T.D.'s. The Silver Knights (0-1) will host Doddridge County a 48-6 winner over South Harrison in their opener. The game will feature two of the states top running backs in Tyler's Mark Rucker and the Bulldogs Hunter America. Game time will start at 7 p.m.
