PC Performs Well in Scrimmage

August 28, 2019

Paden City hosted Conotton Valley High School Friday night at Berger field to give fans a preview of what's to come. The young Wildcats were outnumbered 34-17, but by the end of the scrimmage it was the visitors who wanted to stop. Coach Heasley and staff have worked hard to get the guys in shape and it showed up big time on Friday.

Not only were they ready to play they didn't want to quit. This is a good sign for Wildcat faithfull as the regular season kicks off on this Friday with an away contest against an always tough Frontier team. Don't expect to see the Cat's lay down for anyone on the schedule as they are fired up and ready to play.

"I was really impressed by how we played Friday. All of the things we wanted to correct from the first scrimmage was corrected in this scrimmage. I saw some major improvement on both sides of the ball. I emphasized in our team meeting before the scrimmage that we needed to play fast and physical and we did just that. Offensively, we scored three times," Coach Zach Heasley said.

Paden City’s quarterback received quality pass protection on this play, allowing him to survey the field and find an open receiver during the Wildcats’ scrimmage wiith Conotton Valley.

The Wildcats first touchdown came off of an interception from Shane Anderson, which led to a Clayton Thomas touchdown run a few plays later. PAT was no good. Their second touchdown came from Parker Higgins after a few big runs he had. 2 point conversion was no good and their final score came near the end where Zane Yeater hit Ethan Cross deep down the sideline for a touchdown. 2 point conversion was good.

"Defensively, we played extremely well. We gave up 3 scores, but no 2 point conversions were converted. We gave up a few big plays, but after watching film, we can easily fix that because guys weren't in their gaps. We made a lot of TFLs and I am just very pleased with how we played overall on defense. A big thing on defense is turnovers and we had a few of those. Shane Anderson had an interception. We also forced a fumble and recovered it. Those are always good things to see on defense," added Heasley.

Friday's game prediction Paden City 21-12 winners!
