Local Golfers Show Their True Colors

August 21, 2019
Tyler Star News

During the St. Marys Invitational Golf Tournament last Friday afternoon.

The three players were putting on Hole #6, which is very close to the St. Marys High School ball field.

When they heard the St. Marys High School Band start to play the National Anthem-either during the band's after school practice, or perhaps for an event about to begin at the school-all three young golfers stopped their golf game and stood with their hand over their heart in respect for the anthem.

Gavin Britton of Ritchie, Isaac Melvin of Tyler Consolidated, and Drew Stutler of Wirt are pictured during the St. Mary’s Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday.

There were no coaches or adults there to prompt them to do so; these three young men just felt it was the right thing to do to stop playing golf for the playing of the National Anthem.

The golfers from left to right are: Gavin Britton of Ritchie, Isaac Melvin of Tyler Consolidated, and Drew Stutler of Wirt.
