The Tyler Star News spotlight athlete of the week is Cora Anderson of Paden City. Cora is a member of the Wildcats track and Volleyball teams. She will be a senior in the fall and has been working hard to improve her volleyball skills. The Wildcat volleyball team returns everyone from last season and are looking for big things this year.

Coach Yeater said she expects Cora to play a huge part in the teams overal success, not only as a player but as a leader. "She demonstrates great leadership skills on and off the Court,"said Coach Yeater. " She does whatever is needed for the team. She is one of the best players I've seen, has a great attitude and work ethic, and is great in the classroom as well."

Anderson will begin her third straight year as a starter and fourth season overal. She was on the Wildcats second straight OVAC championship team last season and has played in the tournament all three years she's been on the team. Anderson is an excellent server and plays well in the back row. This season she will be depended on to provide good net play as well. The Wildcats have set some early goals including winning a third straight OVAC championship and advancing to the State Tournament.

"All the girls have been working hard and a few have spent hours playing club ball. I look for Cora to step up big for us and if she does we will be competitive against everyone we play," added Yeater. Anderson brings a combination of speed and finesse to the game along with court awareness and smarts. Her conditioning during track season really paid off as she made the state track meet as a member of the Wildcats 4x200 relay team and 4x400 relay team.

Anderson is a 5'6" senior to be who enjoys being a Paden City Wildcat and hopes to make it a special senior year with a trip to the state volleyball tournament as her top sports goal.

Anderson is an honor student with a 3.9 cumulative GPA at Paden City High School. In the past she was a cheerleader and played softball.

During her volleyball years, we have been Mason Dixon Champions for 3 years, but we are planning to make it our 4th year in a row. Through volleyball, she has been been selected for the OVAC All Conference Team, All Valley Volleyball team Honorable Mention, All Wetzel - Tyler County Volleyball Team: Second team honors.

"Along with the physical portion of volleyball, I have the ability to make such a connection with my team. We have created a family that helps our physical and mental abilities to play this game. Other than volleyball, I am included in clubs in school such as National Honor Society, Cats Club, Sources of Strength, Cancer Slayers, and Give a Gift to the Children's Hospital. Outside of school, I love to kayak through out parts of Wetzel and Tyler county to relax but still get exercise while spending time with friends," said Anderson.
