Shirley Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Cabin Lane on March 4 at about 4:30 p.m. The home was a single-wide trailer and, according to Shirley Fire Chief Jimmy Wade, the cause of the fire is currently unknown. Wade said the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal's office.

The Shirley VFD was first on scene, and was assisted by Middlebourne VFD. Greenwood, West Union, and Smithburg VFDs later arrived on scene for man-power assistance.

One individual was harmed in the fire, and sustained second and third degree burns. Middlebourne EMS provided patient care, and Doddridge County Ambulance Authority assisted in setting up a landing zone at the Doddridge County football field for an Air Evac team.
