Despite not sending any wrestlers to the state tournament, the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights and the second-year program Paden City Wildcats got to experience some of the best wrestling of the year on Friday and Saturday at Fairmont Senior. Both teams took part in the Class AA/A, Region I, event, with each team landing a couple wins but no one qualifying for the state tournament.

James Beaver of Paden City picked up a win on Friday in his first match, getting a pin over an early opponent. Wildcat Jasup Spragg also got a win by pin in his third bout of the night Friday. Paden City got a forfeit win by Ryan Cross. Cross ended up as a fifth-place finisher in the 220-pound weight class winning by fall over Nate Gerau, of East Fairmont High School.

Tyler Consolidated got a sixth-place finish in the 285-pound heavyweight division by Billy Anderson, who lost the fifth-place match to Cole English of Oak Glen. The Wildcats finished in 15th place among the 17 schools, with 24.00 points. The Silver Knights followed in 16th place, with 12.00 points. Wheeling Central ended in last place. Winning the event was East Fairmont High School with 196.50 points, followed by Oak Glen with 175.50.
