Tyler Tames Valley, Finishes Third in Tourney

Tyler Consolidated beat Valley, 53-42, in the Silver Knights' annual Boggs Roundball Classic consolation game on Saturday. The win came behind three senior double-figure scorers - Peyton Kocher, 18; JoLee Walton, 17, and Josey Jones, 12. Walton had a double-double with 13 rebounds, and Kocher added six steals. Jones just missed a double-double with nine steals.

The Knights led the Lumberjills by one, 12-11, after one quarter but extended the lead to nine at the half with an 18-10 run in the second period. Coming out after the break, the Silver Knights outscored Valley, 13-7, to take a 43-28 lead going into the last eight minutes. Valley couldn't recover and lost the last period, 17-14, to give the Silver Knights the win.

Adding to the Knights' scoring was Lauren Templeton with five points on two field goals and 1-2 from the line. Caleigh Phillips, Landry Buchanan, and Kelsi VanDruff all hit for two. Walton was superb at the free throw line, hitting 11-13. Kocher was 1-3. Overall, the Knights canned 13-17. The Lumberjills hit 9-11. The Silver Knights hit 21 field goals, while Valley hit 16. Tyler improved to 7-7 on the season with the win.

Valley was led in scoring with Jenna West with 14, while Moore hit for eight, and J. Dallison added seven. C. Underwood got six, and R. Bales hit for five.

Magnolia Gets Win Over Knights In Boggs Roundball Classic

The Silver Knights hung tough with Magnolia most of the night and were down only six entering the fourth quarter, before falling by 13, 55-42, on Thursday night in the semi-final round of the annual Boggs tournament.

Tyler played the bigger Blue Eagles tough in the first frame and at the end of eight was down two, 10-8. The second period saw the visitors from New Martinsville extend the lead to eight for a 12-6 halftime lead. The Silver Knights came out strong after the break and took the third period, 14-12, to cut the lead to six, entering the last eight minutes.

Magnolia, however, took control in the final period and won the game with a 21-14 advantage to give them the 13 point win. Kyndra Pilant was the game's leading scorer with 21 points for the Blue Eagles, followed by Aquera Cabral with 20. Mady Winters, the Blue Eagles' 6'2" center, was held to six points. Lenieca Grimm knocked in four. Reagan Hale added a basket to round out the scoring for Magnolia.

Knights senior ace Josey Jones hit for 20 points on the night, followed by Peyton Kocher, who knocked in 15 - including four 3-pointers. JoLee Walton finished with six markers while grabbing 11 rebounds and playing tight defense on Winters.

The win moved Magnolia to the championship game against Morgantown Trinity, while the Silver Knights got the consolation bid against Valley.
