Paden City Head Coach Allan Miller explains to his starters the importance of playing like a team, and encouraging one another when things don’t go as planned.

The Paden City Lady Wildcats doubled-up St. Marys, 16-8, in the opening period and went on to defeat St. Marys, 46-26, Jan. 11 inside the Bob Burton Gymnasium.

The Wildcats’ top scorer Hannah Loy recorded all five of her points in the opening period, including a basket from beyond the arch to give the ‘Cats a quick 16-8 lead after eight minutes of play. Abbe Stackpole went yard twice and Paige Leonard once to highlight the opening period.

Both teams were patient in the second half as only 14 combined points were scored with Paden City netting nine, while the Devils contributed five points, giving the Lady Wildcats a 25-13 advantage at the break.

Again, both teams worked the ball around and only took good open shots in the third period with Raven Fulks leading the home team with a pair of deuces. Stackpole swished one in from Tyler County to give Paden City a 36-21 lead with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Every time the Lady Devils got within single digits of Paden City, someone(s) on the the Wildcats team would get hot and would go on a run, getting the lead back to double-digits.

This also happened in the final period as well. Skylar Fulks lifted a triple, while sister Raven swished a deuce, and Madi Knight – a pair of freebies at the charity line to help Paden City dethrone the Blue Devils on this night.

“The girls played like a team out there tonight,” said Paden City Head Coach Allan Miller.

“Every time St. Marys got within 10 points, someone new would pick us up and get that lead back in double-figures.”

“I’m just thankful that the girls played and looked like a team.

When someone would make a mistake, there was one of my girls right there to pick her up.”

Stackpole paced the Wildcats with 14 points, including four baskets from well beyond the arch, while making six rebounds, and stopping numerous Blue Devil fast breaks with her defensive presence. Leonard also scored in double-figures, scoring 10 points that included a pair of bonus bombs.

In addition, Skylar and Raven Fulks scored seven and six points, respectively. Raven collected a team-high 11 rebounds.

Madi Knight scored three points, while Madison Kline sank a free throw.
