Senior Griffin Phillips and the Silver Knights overpowered the Red Devils of Ravenswood on Friday night, Jan. 4, on the Devils' home floor. The Silver Knights defeated Ravenswood to the tune of 84-54. It was a much needed win for the 5-3 Silver Knights, who lost their last outing to St. Marys in a game played without center Tyler West, who went down early in the first half with an injury.

West came back strong on Friday with a double-double 18 points and 12 rebounds, including two 3-pointers. However, it was Phillips who lit up the scoreboard, as he hit for 41 points on 17 field goals and 7-10 free throws. Overall, the Knights shot just 11 free throws with Gage Huffman getting the other try.

Phillips had a career night, adding nine rebounds, seven assists and seven steals to his resume. Teammate Mark Rucker also got in on the action and hit double figures with 15 points, including a three. Rucker added four steals and six rebounds, along with five assists. The first quarter set the tone as Phillips got to the basket at will, and the Silver Knights doubled up the Red Devils, 24-12.

By halftime, the Knights had extended the lead to 52-24 with a 27-12 second quarter. Phillips accounted for 24 first-half points, and for all intents and purposes, the game was over. With Tyler outscoring the home team in every quarter - and Phillips having his way - Ravenswood would fall to 1-8 on the year.

Phillips hit on 17-28 shots in the contest, mostly on quick takes to the basket and pullup jump shots. West was a beast under the basket with his rebounds and put backs. Gage Huffman played a nice floor game to go along with his four points, as he contributed seven assists and three steals. Justin Bowman and David Throckmorton each hit a basket for two points, and Nick Gorby got three assists.

The Silver Knights hit 37 field goals, compared to Ravenswoods' 21. The Knights outrebounded the Red Devils, 38-27.

St. Marys, Too Much For Silver Knights

Tyler Consolidated found itself locked in a close battle with St. Marys Dec. 28, on the Blue Devils' home court. After the first eight minutes, the score stood at 14-11, in favor of the Blue Devils. With nearly a minute gone in the second quarter, Silver Knight center Tyler West went down while trying for a rebound. He had to be carted off the floor, never to return. The home team went on to claim a 76-60 victory.

The loss of West was the real turning point in the game, as the Knights lost their inside presence and had to rely more on outside shooting and some inexperience. West is a big part of the Silver Knights' offense and defense, which put the visitors at a huge handicap.

The Blue Devils ended with four double-digit scorers on the night, led by Isaak Mooney's game-high 17 points. He was followed by Richard Dornon with 13, William Steele with 11, and Grant Barnhart with 10.

The Silver Knights also had four players in double digits, led by Mark Rucker's 15 - including three 3-pointers. Griffin Phillips added 12 points, while grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Gage Huffman hit for 13, including a three. He also added four steals, while Justin Bowman scored 10 points, including a three. Rucker had three steals and eight rebounds.

The Blue Devils led in rebounding, 39-31, while hitting seven three-pointers - compared to the Knights' six. Tyler had 13 opportunities at the free throw line, making eight. The Blue Devils only went to the line six times and made three. The Silver Knights dropped to 4-3 on the campaign. St. Marys also moved to 4-3 with the win.
