Recently placed to West Liberty University's Alumni Association's Wall of Honor, New Martinsville resident and owner of Anderson Orthodontics, Dr. Anissa Monseau Anderson, DDS, MS, recently received additional recognition for being a distinguished alumnus.

Dr. Anderson and her husband, Danny, reside in New Martinsville with their three daughters - Alavia, Kayna, and Jessa. Anderson graduated from WLU's Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene in 1994 and went on to earn a master's degree in orthodontics and doctorate degree in dental surgery at West Virginia University.

Following her honor by WLU, West Virginia Delegate Dave Pethtel, from Wetzel County, went to work to get Anderson recognition from the state as well.

Dr. Anissa Anderson stands as Delegate Dave Pethtel reads a special legislative citation, recognizing and congratulating Anderson for being a distinguished alumnus of West Liberty University.

Pethtel explained that, many times, the state legislature will recognize athletic champions and individuals who have done well academically.

He said he likes to try and do the same for people who have done well in their communities and have been recognized by their peers.

Pethtel felt Dr. Anderson is that type of person. He noticed an October 2018 article in the Wheeling Intelligencer about her WLU recognition. "It was by chance I found that article, because it came out in October - during campaign season, and I was working very hard," said Pethtel.

He said he knew right away, when he read the article, that he needed to do something to get Anderson recognized by the state. He was able to get the measure passed on the floor and recently presented Dr. Anderson with a State of West Virginia Citation, recognizing and congratulating her for being named to the WLU Wall of Honor.

Anderson has been in private practice as an orthodontist since 2001. She was a member of the Xi Beta Phi honorary mathematics and science fraternity at West Liberty. She has served as a part-time associate clinical professor of orthodontics at West Virginia University and serves on the admissions committee for the WVU Orthodontic Residency Program.

Anderson is also credited for the formation and operation of the Wetzel County Oral Health Improvement Council, providing free dental screenings to students in Wetzel County Schools.

After receiving the citation, Dr. Anderson stated she believes people need to stay busy and do their small part in this world.

She noted that, through her practice, she has seen kids from a lot of different backgrounds. She explained how she tries to offer encouragement to them all.

Dr. Anderson noted her office is a faith-based office. "We've had nothing but positive comments on it," she said.
