Knights Fall to Crusaders, 69-32

Tyler Consolidated's girls basketball team scored the first five points of a game against Parkersburg Catholic on Dec. 5, but from there it was Crusaders as they powered their way to a 69-32 victory on the Knights' home floor.

Josey Jones hit a three and then added another basket to give the Knights a 5-0 lead to start the game. However, Catholic came right back and took the lead for a 16-11 first quarter advantage and never trailed again. The Crusaders outscored the Knights 15-9 in the second period for a 31-19 lead at the break. Madeline Huffman, the Crusaders' point guard, finished the half with 17 points, including 13 in the second quarter.

The third period belonged to the visitors as they hit for 20 points while holding the Knights to only six. The fourth period was more of the same as the Crusaders outscored the Silver Knights, 18-9, to seal the victory. Huffman finished the game with 29 points for Parkersburg Catholic, while teammate and sister Leslie Huffman added 11.

The Silver Knights were led by Jones and Peyton Kocher with 13 points each. Jones also had six rebounds. Kocher knocked in three from beyond the arc. Caleigh Phillips hit two baskets for four points. JoLee Walton and Regan Smith each canned a free throw to round out the scoring for Tyler.

Knights Take Down Rebels

Tyler Consolidated got win number two on its young girls basketball season as the Silver Knights defeated Ritchie County, 49-34, in a home contest for the Silver Knights on Friday night.

After falling on Wednesday to a tough Parkersburg Catholic team, the Knights got the 13 point win on the heels of Josey Jones' 19 points, Peyton Kocher's 14 points, and JoLee Walton's 11 points. The three seniors scored 44 of the team's 49 points.

Regan Smith and Miranda Weekley each hit for two points, and Summer Miller knocked down a free throw for a point. Walton led the team in rebounds with six, while Jones had nine steals, and Kocher added four. Weekley pitched in with three assists and two steals. The Knights led 26-15 at the break and increased the lead by five in the second half to get the win and improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Knights' JV team also got a victory as they edged out a 29-22 win, with Eden Turner leading the way with 14 points.
