BY ED PARSONS , Tyler Star News

The Knights' volleyball team, playing on a home floor before a big crowd on "Pink Out" night, never let the fans down as the team put on a show to help raise funds for a good cause. JoLee Walton had her second 30 assist match in a row as she filled the stat book with 30 assists, 71 sets, 14 points, three blocks and two digs to help the Knights to a three straight match win: 25-7, 25-13 and 25-14. Josey Jones continued to hit well as she finished with 11 kills, one block, 13 digs and four points.

Set one came easy for the Silver Knights as they started out on fire and never let the Red Devils in the set. Set two was just more of the same as the Knights controlled all phases of the set and then finished the visitors off in set three by using superior net and back row play.

Emily Lancaster was impressive with eight kills and four blocks, while Alexa Johnson added seven kills and a block. Regan Smith got six kills, four blocks, two digs and a point, while Victoria Hood added two kills and two blocks.

Knights Get Win Over Wirt County

Tyler Consolidated took its volleyball show on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 2 for a battle with the defending state champs, Wirt County. The Silver Knights showed they can play with the states best when they took the match in four sets: 25-15, 23-25, 25-23 and 28-26.

Despite playing without big hitter Alexa Johnson, the Knights were in complete control in set one - taking an early four point lead and extending it to 10 to get the win. In set two, Wirt came back like they often do and captured a hard-fought set to tie things up 1-1 in the best of five series.

The Silver Knights turned the tables in the next set to get the win, 25-23, before finishing the Tigers off in the fourth set in overtime - 28-26.

Josey Jones came in huge around the net as she knocked down 19 kills, eight blocks, 18 digs and eight points. JoLee Walton, one of the state's best setters, showed why as she finished huge with 35 assists, 89 sets, 10 digs, 14 points and four aces.

Jones wasn't alone in the kill department as senior leaper Emily Lancaster slammed down 13 kills of her own to go along with three blocks; sophomore Regan Smith added nine kills and five blocks with some good net play of her own.

Victoria Hood added four kills and four blocks, while senior libero Peyton Kocher stepped up big with 14 digs and 16 points. Cora Grimm continued her steady play with 11 digs and five service points. Madison DeVaughn, who can knock the air out of the ball serving, had 11 points from the line and added 11 digs to help the Knights to the win. Allie Miller contributed with five points.

"We had some girls step up and make some big plays tonight. They played like I know they can, and we were without our big girl. The girls are playing well right now, and some are really picking up on their game. We have some big matches coming up, so we will keep working. Our play around the net is improving, and that could be a big factor for us down the road,"Coach Richard Summers said.
