Luncheon Held To Celebrate Freshwater as Man of Year

A luncheon was held Sept. 15 at the Presbyterian Church in Sistersville to recognize West Virginia Oil & Gas Man of the Year David Freshwater. The luncheon began with an introduction from Delegate Roger Romine. Romine recognized head table guests, special guests, and former gas men of the year. Reverend Colleen Griffith lead the invocation before the luncheon. The luncheon was catered by Quinet's Court Restaurant and sponsored by I.O.G.A.

Freshwater was introduced by former Man of the Year Charlie Burd. Freshwater then delivered a speech to attendants describing his experience and involvement with the oil and gas industry. After the luncheon, Freshwater was named as Parade Marshal.

In 1970 at the age of 25, Freshwater founded David A. Freshwater Well Service (later known as Petro Services), a conventional well servicing company. In 1974, Freshwater was approached by Mr. Reeves Lewenthal, a U.S. Art pioneer turned oil and gas developer, to lease and develop oil and gas properties. Between 1975 and 1981, Lewenthal, Freshwater and his partner, Richard L. Mann, backed by New York Investment Bank, Allen & Company, drilled several hundred wells throughout the Appalachian Basin. In 1981 they merged entities to create Allegheny & Western Energy Corporation (A&W), a publicly held company. In addition to being a major shareholder, Freshwater became vice president of operations. The company later expanded with their purchase of Columbia Gas of West Virginia which today is known as Mountaineer Gas Company. With over 6,000 miles of pipeline Mountaineer Gas became the largest gas utility company in West Virginia. Freshwater had the opportunity and re-purchased the majority of the Petro Services assets, and today continues the company as ConServ. Today, ConServ provides contracting services to a number of oil and gas related companies throughout the entire U.S.
