TCHS Plays Host to Band Competition

The Tyler Consolidated High School Band hosted the 47th Annual West Virginia Oil and Gas Festival Marching Band Competition on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Knights Stadium.

Eleven bands from around the state competed in the parade and field show competitions. Bands were rated in the areas of field show, percussion, auxiliary, and field commander and received ratings of gold, silver, or bronze, based on the quality of their performances.

George Washington High School received the highest total points in the parade competition and was named the "Grand Champion" of the parade. Parkersburg South High School earned the highest total of points in the field show competition and was name the "Grand Champion" of the field show.

These are the trophies handed out to the winners of the Oil & Gas Band Competition. Trophies were made by Probst Custom Metal.

Bands receiving gold ratings (90-100 points) from all three judges in the areas of music, marching, and general effect are named "Honor Bands" of the competition. In addition to GWHS and PSHS, Lewis County High School earned the status of an "Honor Band" for the field show competition.

The following bands competed at this annual event: Ritchie County High School, Williamstown High School, Magnolia High School, Paden City High School, Valley High School, Roane County High School, Brooke High School, George Washington High School, Parkersburg South High School, Lewis County High School, and Buckhannon-Upshur High School. The Tyler Consolidated High School Band performed in exhibition.
