Tyler Star News

Miranda Weekley is not your everyday girl. Not to say she doesn't enjoy time to herself and having fun, but when you look at her accomplishments and schedule, you have to know she's a very busy young lady who takes pride in all that she does.

The soon-to-be senior has let nothing get in her way and slow her down. She is a top-notch high school student an example setter and a leader. In fact, one of her favorite things is helping others. This past week she was once again on her game as she was involved with the youth soccer camp as a counselor.

Her athletic skills are evident by her achievements on the soccer field where she has been on the high school soccer team since her freshman year and lettered each year. She served as one of the team captains her junior year and will soon begin another season. During her sophomore year, she was named to the first team LKC and was an OVAC honorable mention honoree. As a junior, she once again grabbed a spot on the LKC first team and was an All-Regional Choice.

As much as she enjoys soccer, she is also quite successful on the basketball court; she has played the game since she was a fourth grader, and when entering high school her freshman year, she joined the high school team where she lettered her sophomore and junior seasons - giving the Knights some valuable time on the floor. Miranda received the LKC 2017-2018 Scholar Athlete award for basketball and plans on trying for her third letter this coming season.

While playing for the Silver Knights, she has also been named the Athlete of the Week by the Tyler Star News on two occasions. Her high school basketball coach the past few years, Cathy Boggs quoted, "Miranda is the type of athlete every coach wants on their team. She is a hard worker; she never quits hustling. She listens well to instructions and then carries them out on the court. Whether she's on the bench or in the game, she always does her best for the team."

While athletics have been an important part of her life, she always finds time for nearly everything else that comes her way. She is an active member of the Pursley Church of Christ. Her academics are her greatest achievements - maintaining a 4.714 GPA, and being in the top 15 percent of her class. She has been invited to the Peoples Bank awards banquet since the fifth grade.

Throughout her high school years she has won various awards for the highest GPA in her classes - including honors 10, honors English, Geometry, Honors Biology I and II and Spanish II. She was named Student of the Month during her sophomore year and is a member of the National Honor Society. Weekley was on the Merit list for the Fall 2017 school year at West Virginia Northern Community College.

She can also sing: She loves being in the choir, and was in the All-State Junior High/ Middle School Honor Choir her freshman year, and received awards for outstanding performance choir her sophomore and junior years. She is a three-year choir letterman, working towards her fourth.

Her clubs and organizations are almost to numerous to mention. She has been a member of the chess club, the book club, prom club, Project Pediatrics club, Spanish club and Super Teens Achieving Regional Success (STARS). She was the president of the prom club her junior year and secretary of STARS her sophomore and junior years and has now been elected as president of her Senior Class and president of the National Honor Society.

Miranda's attitude has always been upbeat. She often has a serious look on her face and attention to detail and her concentration. She has a work ethic and is a hard worker who wants to improve at all she does. She has demonstrated she has the skill to participate and be effective, but what makes her most effective is her ability to think and evaluate each situation.

She has maintained faithful attendance and received numerous awards for her community service work during her high school years. Her favorite being the STARS Club's Halloween Truck-or-Treat held at Tyler Consolidated High School. She also has several hobbies which include hanging out with friends, reading, camping and watching Netflix. She also has part-time jobs at Boggs Pizza 'n Grill and Tyler County Speedway.

Upon graduating from high school, Weekley plans on attending college and majoring in speech pathology. Think she'll make it? Our bet is on her!
