Knights’ Trio Named All-LKC

June 6, 2018
Ed Parsons - Sports Writer , Tyler Star News

Tyler Consolidated do-it-all junior Tyler West was afforded first team honors this past week as he was named to the Little Kanawa Conference baseball team as an outfielder.

West who was a mainstay for Coach Robby Jones club this season can play nearly every position on the field.

When playing center field, it has often been said they don't need anymore outfielders.

He does cover a lot of territory! West was just as effective in the infield manning the third base spot or on the mound throwing strikes.

However don't just give him credit on the defensive end, for he can hammer you on offense just the same.

On the mound he recorded three wins this year against two losses while also gaining three saves.

At the plate he hit .390 with an on base average of .410. He clobbered three home runs, six triples and a host of doubles to lead the Knights to the Region 1 Sectional Championship.

West is also a basketball standout for the Silver Knights.

Senior Luke Daugherty has been named to the LKC second unit as a pitcher.

He has been the guy the Knights turn to the past few years when the big game is on the line and he has seldom failed.

Last season he was 9-0 before he lost his first game in the regionals against Wheeling Central. This season he finished with 5-3 with a .178 ERA.

Daugherty has proven to be a cool customer who delivers the best when under pressure.

When not on the mound he is usually found at the short stop position where he finished with a low error mark of six the entire season.

He is also the guy you want at the plate when runners are on base, as he hit .405 and drove in 11 runs.

Also making the second team squad is senior Dylan Roberts as an infielder and so deserving.

Roberts could handle any chore the Coaches threw his way but was most effective at Short Stop or on the mound.

He has an exceptionally strong arm and rarely makes a bad throw or lets one get by him. When called upon to work the mound he was often just as effective.

Roberts is just an all-around good athlete who gives a great effort every time out. He finished the season with seven errors from the hot spot and helped turn six double plays.

He also hit two triples and six doubles and ended the year with a .278 batting average.

Dylan was also the point guard on the Knights Basketball team the past three years.
