PSD Fixes Elk Fork Water Line

May 9, 2018
BY CHAD TURNER - Staff Writer (cturner@tylerstarnews.com) , Tyler Star News

The Tyler County Public Service District met recently, and board members were informed the Elk Fork water line work has been completed. There had previously been a water line exposed from the erosion of the creek bank, but the PSD was able to move the line over the hill and away from the creek to prevent any future erosion issues. The PSD will meet with FEMA to see if there are any reimbursement options for the project.

There was a slip on Whiskey Run which caused a water line kink, resulting in the loss of water pressure for some residents. The PSD was able to borrow a line puller and replaced 100 ft of 2-inch water line.

It was noted there is a water line at the top of Paden Fork which is exposed. PSD Manager Tina Lancaster went to the exposed sight to survey the situation. Part of the problem is the ditch has washed out, exposing the line. In fact, the ditch is several feet deep in some places, and the PSD would like to see the ditch filled in. The PSD has contacted Josh Norris with the West Virginia Department of Highways to work together to resolve the issue.

The PSD is now accepting use of Debit Card payments, and the website is now operational for customer convenience. Users may go to www.tylercountypsd.com for more information and to pay bills online. There is also a listing of regulations, rates, tampering notices, and other topics. Computers have also been updated at the PSD office. They are now linked together and automatically save information which will save on office hours.

The side road leading to the PSD will be given a new coat of gravel. New signs have been ordered for the PSD reading "Tyler County PSD." The signs are projected to be delivered by the end of the week.

The Route 18 South Water Project is progressing. The user agreements are finished and the PSD is handing out memos to customers informing them of a tap fee reimbursement for those eligible. There will be a conference call on May 15, and the PSD hopes to have all of the easements finished by then as well.

The PSD will be looking to hire a third member for field work around the beginning of June. They are looking for someone that preferably has operating experience but that is not a requirement. The ad will run in the newspaper for two weeks before they begin interviews. A motion passed to advertise for the position.

The PSD is still looking into a phone tree notification system to alert customers in the event of a boil order, water leak, or any other notifications deemed necessary.

The next Tyler County PSD meeting will be on Monday, May 21 beginning at 3 p.m. and located at the PSD building in Friendly.
