A special Community Outreach Family Fun Day will be held in New Martinsville on May 5, noon to 6:30 p.m. This event, sponsored by Tri-County Combating Addiction With Grace, will be held at Bruce Park. The purpose of the event is to inform the community about drug addiction and to let area residents know about the resources available in the community for combating addiction. There will be flyers handed out through the community in order to remind residents of the upcoming event.

Tri-County Combating Addiction with Grace is a group developed to battle the current drug epidemic affecting Marshall, Tyler and Wetzel counties. Members of the Attorney General's Office, as well as several local volunteers, have long sensed a need for a group of individuals willing to step up for the betterment of the community. The group consists of members representing several churches throughout the community, gathering to come up with suggestions or solutions on how to approach drug awareness.

The Community Outreach scheduled for May 5 will include free food, live music and DJ, games for kids, inflatables, free resources for combating addiction, and pastors or church leaders present for prayer or counseling. There will be live testimonies from people who have successfully gotten over their addictions, to show that it can be done. Organizers describe the event as a wonderful opportunity to find the help that some folks so desperately need. Several churches and concerned members of the community will be donating free food and games for the children. The local EMS and VFD organizations will also be on site to provide games for children while educating them about drug awareness. There will also be door prizes available for those in attendance.Notably, National Prevention Week will be observed May 13-19. This week is devoted to raising awareness of substance use and other mental health issues, as well as an opportunity for communities to take action.

Tri-County Combating Addiction with Grace is also looking to get more local churches and prevention sources to join in the fight against addiction. For more information about the Community Outreach Fun Day, or Tri-County Combating Addiction with Grace, you may contact John Dyer at (740) 624-6031.
