Silver Knights Boys and Girls Brave Elements

Saturday, April 7, wasn't a typical Spring day as the weather turned nasty overnight and temperatures fell to around 30 degrees with brisk winds and even snowfall. However, more than willing to brave the elements were the Tyler Consolidated girls and boys track teams.

As the long and winding road to Glenville became even the longer, the Silver Knights couldn't wait to heat things up. Once on the track they showed that Knights track is not for whimps. Getting on the scorecard for Tyler was Destry Nelson who won a first place in the open 400 with a 55.23. Gavin Corley racked up a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run with a 2:19.91, while Spencer Corley got second in the 1600, just a fraction of a second behind the winner.

Nathan Barker picked up points in the hurdles, coming in third in the 110 and 300s. His time in the 110 was 17.81 and 48.60 in the 300. The Silver Knights boys picked up points in the 4x100, coming in second to Phillip Barbour with a 47.89. Team members included Nick Gorby, Mark Rucker, Zack Placer and Johnathan Miller. The Knights also finished with points in the 4x200 with a third place finish. Team included Gorby, Isaac Rush, George Tennant and Miller with a 1:46.26.

Taking first place for the Knights was the 4x400 meter relay team who outran the field in a 3:55.52. Team members were Nelson, S. Corley, Rucker and Placer. The Silver Knights took the 4x800 with Nelson, G. Corley, Josh Frum and S. Corley, with a winning time of 9:11.48.

In the boys high jump, the Knights got a first place finisher in S. Corley with a 5-08.00, to add 10 more points to their side. Rucker came up fifth in the long jump with a 17-08.50. Jacob Sharp got off a fourth place toss in the shot put for four points with a 33-10.00. In the discus, the Knights got two in the points with Sharp getting third with a 91-04 and Garrett Littell throwing 89-04.25 for fifth. The Boys finished tied for first place with Roane County out of the eight teams participating.

In the girls division, the Silver Knights captured the first place spot with 126 points to 101 for runner-up Clay County. Emily Lancaster got points in the 100-meter dash, coming in third with a 15.2. Eden Turner finished second in the open 400 with a 72:68. In the 800-meter run, Jahnvi Duncan came in fourth with a 2:55.34

In the 1600-meter run, Emma Paden grabbed the fifth place spot with a 6:49.59, while also placing fourth in the 3200 with a 14:22.04.

The girls 100-meter hurdles was won by Silver Knight freshman Claire Miller in 22.95 to add 10 points for the Knights. She also added 8 points with a second place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a 66.82. The Silver Knights got another first in the 4x100 with a team of Rachal Hashman, Eden Turner, Emily Lancaster and Joralda Rice, with a 59.73. The Knights girls picked up a third place finish with a 2:15.99 in the 4x200 meter relay with a team of Katie Pratt, Rosana Smith, Demery Nelson and Rice.

The Knights picked up two more first places in the relays with a win in the 4x800 and a win in the 4x102.5 to add 20 more points to their side. In the high jump, Katie Pratt got the win with a 4-05.00 and Eden Turner took the pole vault with a 7-06, while Lancaster got second with a vault of 6-06. Joralda Rice finished second in the long jump with 13-11.00 leap.

In the girls shot put, Magnolia's Kyndra Pilant took third placewith a toss of 31-09 and got third as well in the discus with a throw of 99-08.50
