Paden City Boys Get A Big WVHIT Win

Paden City made the three hour drive to Union pay off on Friday, as the boys basketball team came home with an 80-74 win, breaking a five game losing streak and giving the team a fifth win on the campaign, against 11 losses.

The Wildcats were hot from the start and found themselves in a dog fight, yet they held on to get the hard-fought win. Matt Saxon scored a career high as the hot shooting point guard knocked in four long-range three-pointers and ended with a game-high 31 points. He was also credited with four steals and three assists.

Paden City's other hot shooting guard, Ethan Cross, scorched the nets for 23 points, which included three long bombs. from beyond the arc. Together the duo accounted for 53 of the Wildcats' 80 points. Junior Trey Slider had a nice game with 11 points to give the Wildcats three double-figure scorers on the night. He also grabbed eight rebounds and added four steals and six assists.

Anthony Newman added five, and promising freshman Ty Cain chipped in with four. Seth Bohrer ended the scoring with a free throw. The Wildcats hit 13-20 from the free throw line and out-rebounded the home team, 24-22.

The Wildcats will play at home Feb. 15 against Clay-Battelle, will head to Linsly on Feb. 16, make the trip to Beallsville on Feb. 17, and will then head back home to face St. Marys on Feb. 21.

Paden City Drops Game To Clay-Battelle

The Wildcats took the long trip to Clay-Battelle on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in hopes of adding another win to their column. However, the Cee Bees proved to be too much and sent the visitors home on the short end of a 63-45 loss.

Ethan Cross, a promising sophomore guard, hit for a team-high 16 points in the contest and also added three steals. Seth Bohrer and Garrett Cross backed him up with eight markers each, while Anthony Newman and Bryant McKay both scored six. Trey Slider hit for five points to round out the scoring for the Wildcats.
