A much improved Paden City girls basketball team played the Magnolia Blue Eagles for the second time this season on Monday, Jan. 30 in Paden City. The first time around, the Lady Wildcats found the going pretty tough as the Blue Eagles used good outside shooting and a strong inside game to run away.

The second time around didn't prove to be as easy as Paden City kept the visitors at bay most of the first quarter. Paden City held an eight point lead in the second quarter after Hannah Loy, the game's leading scorer, hit a three-pointer to put the Wildcats up, 23-15, with 5 minutes left before the half. Magnolia took a time-out and came back to take a one point halftime lead before winning the second half, 21-7, to get the 47-32 hard-fought victory.

The Blue Eagles started the second half with an 11-0 run led by Kennedy Parsons, who connected on one of her two three-pointers in the game. Mady Winters also added two buckets in the spurt that saw Magnolia go up seven as they outscored the 'Cats 10-4 in the frame.

"We were playing the best ball we have all season until they stepped up the pressure in the third quarter, and we just couldn't handle it. But we're learning and getting better. We made some shots, which makes everyone better. Then, in the second half, we went flat and only had maybe 10 shots. We'll keeping working. Magnolia's a good team with a lot of size, so I am proud of how well be played against a quality team, " said Coach Alan Miller.

Loy hit for 21 points to lead all scorers, including a three and 8-10 from the free throw line. She also got five rebounds and had two assists. Raven Fulks added five markers for Paden City, including a three. Paige Leonard hit for four. Abbe Stackpole also scored a bucket.

Magnolia was led by Winters with 20, followed by Kendra Pilant with 12. Between the two they had 25 rebounds with Winters getting 14. Logan Riggs and Parsons each added six points for Magnolia.
