The Stealey-Green Center, located on Dodd Street in Middlebourne, has recently seen some improvements made to the facilities. The game room offers a ping pong table, pool table, air hockey table, and foosball table. There are also plans to install a television to allow kids to stream movies and shows at their leisure. Kids will also be able to play video games with their friends, thanks to the anticipated television set.

Other improvements included newly carpeted walls, which provide a padding as opposed to the former concrete walls. The carpet also prevents the walls from chipping.

The basketball court was refinished last year and is still in great condition, considering the age of the floor. There are leagues held throughout the year for adults and youth, and there are free hours available daily after school and on some weekends. Rentals are available as well. The hours of availability vary due to whether someone has the gym rented at a particular time or not. Free hours are often posted on the "Middlebourne Parks & Recreation," Facebook page, and folks may call the center at 304-758-4469 for further information.

Rental fees are $12 an hour for youth parties (gymnasium only), $14 an hour for youth parties (gymnasium and game room), and $20 an hour for adult basketball/events. These prices can negotiable for special events. For instance, events that are designed to help the community can receive a price cut. Pavilions are available to rent at the park during nice weather as well. There are also advertising opportunities availability. The park offers space to advertise businesses for only $100 a year, and several of these advertisements are placed on the walls inside the Stealey-Green Center.

The family center can be used for a variety of functions - banquets, wedding receptions, Vacation Bible School, to name a few. The center is available at a rental fee that the board of directors feel the citizens of Middlebourne, and surrounding areas, can afford to pay.

The Stealey-Green Center provides a facility where school age children can meet and play basketball, enjoy the game room, or the computer room - free of charge and under adult supervision after school and during the summer.

A brief history of the Stealey-Green Center: In March of 1994 the old Tyler County High School gymnasium was deeded to the town of Middlebourne by the Tyler County Board of Education, to be used as a community center. During this time period, a parks and recreation board was selected to adopt by-laws, rules and regulations for the community center and Middlebourne City Park. The by-laws were then presented to Middlebourne City Council, which voted on and passed the rules and regulations. The Middlebourne Community Center and Middlebourne City Park became separate entities from the town of Middlebourne.

In 1998 the Middlebourne Community Center applied for, and received, grants from the Stealey-Green Community Fund for operational expenses, utilities, payroll and other necessities. The Middlebourne Community Center became known as the Stealey-Green Center in 1999.

An activities director and an assistant were employed to schedule activities, collect rental fees, supervise, and do general cleaning of the community center and city park. Middlebourne Parks and Recreation Facilities, Inc. was then formed under the supervision of a five member board of directors. In 2003, the Middlebourne Parks and Recreation Facilities applied for, and received, a 501c3 number. In 2007, the Middlebourne Parks & Recreation received a grant to replace the gym floor. Each year the Stealey-Green Center has seen an increase in the number of people and organizations who use the facility.
