The second half began with Johnson back on the floor for the Knights, but with only 20 seconds off the clock, she picked up her fourth foul and again came off the floor. Freshman Regan Smith gave the Silver Knights a boost off the bench when she replaced Johnson and got five points on two put backs and a free throw. Walton also added four in the quarter as the Knights outscored the Red Devils 20-12, to stretch the lead to 15 with eight minutes to go.

"We followed the game plan and played team ball. We worked to get good shots and with us it's all about team."

"Our defense got several turnovers and we were able to turn them into points. With two minutes to play we just worked the ball around and burnt some time off the clock. We wanted to be patient and not turn the ball over or take bad shots, it was a total team effort," said Tyler Consolidated junior guard/forward/center, Josey Jones.

The fourth quarter saw the Red Devils out score the Knights, 16-10, but it was too little to late as the Knights held on for the win. Kocher led all scorers with 17 points including three three-point shots. She also had four steals and hit 6-8 from the free throw line. Jones added 12 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists. Walton also hit for 12 points with five baskets and 2-3 from the line. She was credited with nine boards. Reynolds hit for 10 points to give the Knights four double-digit scorers for the game. Reynolds had four assists and three steals. Smith finished with seven points, while Johnson added the other two.

Lady Knights Win Thriller

The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knights used balanced scoring and some clutch foul shooting to overcome a 29 point outburst from Valley senior guard Sophie Palmer, but it wasn't enough for the Lumberjills as the Silver Knights came away with a 51-38 win.

"We have been stressing team play in practice. I told the girls if we can be patient on offense, move the ball and hit our foul shots, we have a good chance. We work hard on defense in practice, and tonight it payed off. Anytime you can get three to four girls in double figures your chances of coming away with a win are pretty good," Coach Cathy Boggs said.

The Knights tried several things - including a box and one - to try and slow down Palmer, but she hit shots and went to the bucket to keep the Lady Jills in the game. Palmer had 10 markers in the first quarter, but the Silver Knights had five girls score. At the end of one quarter it was 13-13.

Tyler made some defensive adjustments in the second quarter, holding Palmer to only two points, while the Knights got six points from JoLee Walton and five from Peyton Kocher. Tyler outscored Valley 13-8 to take a five point halftime lead.

Both teams came out on fire in the third quarter with Valley scoring 17, with Palmer leading the way with nine points for the 'Jills, while the Silver Knights knocked in 15, with Walton and Josey Jones each getting four. Kocher hit a three, and Amanda Reynolds and Alexa Johnson each got a bucket. With eight minutes to play, the Knights held a 41-38 lead.

Valley went back to Palmer once again, as she collected eight points in the quarter, and two points from Tessa Dudgeon, who finished the game with eight. It wasn't enough as the Knights also scored 10 in the quarter to maintain the three point advantage and improve to 3-1 on the young season.

"Valley has a good ball team and we are fortunate to come out of here with a win. However I am very happy with the way our girls responded near the end of the game. We handled their pressure very well and got some open looks at the basket, and fortunately, the shots fell for us," added Coach Boggs.

The Knights were led by juniors Josey Jones, who had 15 points and six assists, plus four steals. JoLee Walton finished with 14 points and was 4-5 from the foul line, plus she added 12 rebounds for a double double. Peyton Kocher hit for 10 points, including two threes, and had three steals and six assists. Alexa Johnson added eight points and grabbed nine rebounds. Miranda Weekley went 2-2 from the free throw line and had three assists, while Amanda Reynolds got two points on a bucket and had three steals.
