Knights, Wildcats Perform Well At Larry Richie Memorial

The Silver Knights hosted their annual Larry Richie Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Saturday with seven teams participating. Linsly came out the winner with Magnolia finishing second. The Knights earned some good wins and ended up in third place with 89 points. Leading the way for Tyler was senior Michael Doyle who got a first place win in the 152-pound championship. Also getting big wins for the Silver Knights were Sebastian Hook, Cody Hunter and Cory Chipps. Hunter and Chipps each got runner-up awards.

"There was a lot of excitement here today. We put on a good showing and got some awards. Michael Doyle did an excellent job; his work ethic is very good and it showed today. All of the kids are working hard and we continue to get better,"said Coach Snider.

Snider also wanted to send out a huge "thank you" to all the helpers with the tournament.. "The tournament could not go on without them. I want to thank Katie Bell Snider, Ear Snider, Jason Snider, Matthew Peters, TimothyKanz, Michael Clegg, Brandon and Rickey Keys, Trey Keys, Amy Yeator, and all the mat maids," stated coach Snider.

Silver Knights' Stephen Yost finished third in the 132 weight class, Hunter got a second place in the 138 class, James Beaver got third in the 170; in the 220 pound class, Hooks finihed third. Chipps finished second in the heavyweight class 285-over.

Paden City had a first place winner in Rander Amos who won by pin in the 160 weight class to bring home a trophy. Hunter Bryce got third in the 138 class. Marcus Allen finished fourth in the 170 class. Ryan Cross got fourth in the 220 pound class.

The Larry Richie Memorial is held each year in memory of the long-time wrestling mentor at Sistersville and Tyler Consolidated.

Magnolia Quad

The Silver Knights took their wrestling show on the road Wednesday, Dec. 13, for a meet at Magnolia with the Blue Eagles and Brooke County.

Magnolia took the first match from Tyler Consolidated 47-30; however, the Knights came away with several individual wins. Michael Doyle got a big win in the 152 weight class when he took the Blue Eagles' Chris Wetzel to the mat for a pin at 1:42. The Knights also got a win from James Beaver who scored a fall over Magnolia's Woodson London in the 170 weight class.

Silver Knight senior Sebastian Hooks got another huge win for Tyler in the 220 class when he pinned Hunter Scott at the 3:41 mark. Senior captain Cory Chipps, who has yet to taste defeat, won a decision over Mikey Hamrick 4-1.

In a match-up with Brooke, Hooks scored another victory with as he pinned the Brooke's 220 weight class wrestler Conley Kenton to go undefeated on the day. Below are the results from the Magnolia meet.
