Tyler Consolidated came into Friday nights matchup with the Williamstown Yellowjackets hoping to come away with an opening game win. Although it never happened they gave a valiant effort in the 54-32 loss.

The Silver Knights wasted no time getting on the board as they brought the visiting crowd to it's feet on the first play from scrimmage. After a five yard kickoff return put the ball on the 25 yard line, Junior quarterback Griffin Phillips took the snap and pitched the ball to sophomore Mark Rucker who dodged two tackles and ran 75 yards up the right sideline unmolested for the score, The extra point kick by Phillips was good and with under a minute off the clock the score was 7-0 Knights.

On Williamstowns first possession it looked like the Knights had them stopped dead in their tracks before an unsportsmanlike penalty gave the Yellowjackets new life. They took advantage and scored on a 29 yard pass from Carter Haynes to Donthan Taylor. The point after failed and the Knights held a 7-6 lead.

The Jacket's next score was also a gimme as the Knights fumbled the snap and Haynes scooped it up and returned it 65 yards for the T.D.

The point after was good and Williamstown took a 13-7 lead after one. They tacked on a three yar run in the second period to up it to 20-7 before the Silver Knights responded with a 13 yard T.D. Strike from Phillips to senior Colby Buchanan. Phillips kick found it's mark and the Knights had new blood with a little over two minutes to play in the half 20-14.

At that point the Knights tried a squib kick that found it's way into the Jacket's hands near midfield and they soon capitalized as they went in from one yard out to finish the first half scoring up 20-27.

Tyler got the first score of the second half on another nice run by Rucker as he scrambled 65 yards breaking tackles to draw the Knights to within one 27-26. However from there Williamstown scored the next 20 points to go up 47-26 after three quarters.

The never say die Knights opened the fourth quarter with a 21 yard T.D. Strike from Phillips to Rucker to close the gap to 15 but Williamstown tacked on another with little time left to finish the scoring and come away with the win.

For the Silver Knights Rucker had a big night finishing with 180 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries while also grabbing three passes for 48 yards and a score. Phillips finished 13-22 for 187 yards and two T.D.'s. Buchanan added four receptions for 55 yards and a score and Kyle Mason grabbed four passes for 59 yards. Nate Lancaster hauled in a pass for 24 yards to move the chains.

The Silver Knights gave the Yellowjackets all they wanted but penalties and mistakes at crucial times gave the edge to the home team. The Knights return to action looking for their first win on Friday, in a home contest against the Bulldogs of Doddridge County.
