Tyler BOE Meets New Hires

The Tyler County Board of Education met on Tuesday August 22, 2017 where they were introduced to several new faculty members. Patricia Feldmeier, Director of Human Resources,introduced the new staff members individually starting with Katilyn Moore who will be teaching second grade at Boreman Elementary. Next was Jennifer Negie who will be teaching preschool at Boreman Elementary followed by Anissa Williams who will be a secretary at Sistersville Elementary. Laura Minor and LeeAnn Moore introduced themselves and will be teaching special education at Sistersville Elementary. Next was Tara Mason and Natasha Morris who will both be instructional aids at Sistersville Elementary. Adam Haywood, who transferred from Connecticut, will be teaching math at Tyler Consolidated Middle School. Joseph Semple was introduced and he will be teaching science at Tyler Consolidated High School. Seth Patterson taught Spanish at Tyler Consolidated High School all of last year and will continue to do so this year. Zack Pethtel was introduced as a custodian at Tyler Consolidated High School.

Daniel Cooper was also introduced as a custodian at Tyler Consolidated High School, the Board of Education office, and the bus garage. Chuck Morris will also be a custodian at Tyler Consolidated High School. Valerie Northcraft was introduced as the new secretary at Tyler Consolidated Middle School. Congratulations to all of the new hires and may they have a wonderful year. Others present at the meeting were Stacey Roberts, Executive Secretary; Kent Yoho, TCHS Principal; Suzette Miller, TCMS Principal; Scott Wall, AIB Principal; and Krista Devaughn, SES Principal.

In other news it was announced that attendance for the year is down compared to the end of last year. Boreman Elementary is down 4 students, Sistersville Elementary is down 3 students, Tyler Consolidated Middle School is down 3 students, and Tyler Consolidated High School is down 21 students.

However, last year's graduating class contained 105 students and this year's freshman class consists of 86 students.

The following policies are under review for a two week period:

Tyler County Policy: IS Lesson Plans and Grade Records

Tyler County Policy: IH Promotion/Retention

Tyler County Policy: GBF Staff Development: Professional and Service Personnel

Tyler County Policy: ID Class Ranking

Tyler County Policy: IAE College and Dual Credit Courses

Tyler County Policy: IL Organization of Instruction

Each principal introduced their handbook for the year containing rules and policies for the upcoming year. There were not many changes from last year's book with a few changes in uses of body sprays and, in school suspension policies, and an asbestos page has been included.

Principal Wall also noted that parents will no longer be able to enter Boreman Elementary to pick up students until 2:50 in an effort to keep the hallways clear.

Board approved the following employments, transfers and rescissions.

Employ Jennifer Stephens as Art Teacher at Tyler Consolidated High School, effective August 23, 2017.

Employ Mary Jane Moss as First-grade Teacher at Sistersville Elementary School, effective August 23, 2017.

Employ Barbara Bailey as English Teacher at Tyler Consolidated High School, effective August 23, 2017.

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School located on Silver Knight Drive.
