Tyler County Board of Education Approves Several Requests

The Tyler County Board of Education met on Monday evening where Matt Jennings, TCHS Band Director, requested permission to take the Tyler Consolidated Marching Band to the following events: Football games at Williamstown on August 25, Webster Co. on September 8, Ritchie Co. on October 6, Valley on October 27 and St. Marys on November 3 with buses for transportation. Band Competitions at Elkins Forest Festival on October 7, Spencer on October 14, and West Virginia Marching Band Invitational on October 21 with buses for transportation. Parades in Paden City on September 4, Sistersville on September 16, Middlebourne on October 15, Sistersville on October 27, Sistersville on October 26, Wheeling on November 17, Sistersville on December 1, and Middlebourne on December 2, with buses for transportation. He also requests that select band students be permitted to attend all-state band auditions in Charleston, WV on December 8, 2017.

The following requests were also approved: Christie Curran requested permission for her children, Madison and Quinn, to be released from Tyler County Schools to continue attending Doddridge County Schools for the 2017-18 school year.

Samantha Anderson requested permission for her son, Billy Anderson, to cross county lines to continue attending Tyler Consolidated High School for the 2017-18 school year, pending release from Wetzel County Schools.

Dustin Turner requested permission for her daughter, Cana Turner, to be released from Tyler County Schools to attend Pleasants County Schools for the 2017-18 school year.

Sarah Henry requested permission for her daughter, Katie Mars, to cross county lines to continue attending Tyler Consolidated High School for the 2017-18 school year, pending release from Wetzel County Schools.

Troy Smith, Transportation Director, requested the use of a school bus for the purpose of the bus rodeo at the Tyler County Fair on August 5, 2017.

The Board members acknowledged the following retirements: Jill Lemasters, Tyler Consolidated High School Boys Track Coach, effective immediately. Tanner Wright, Alan Hamrick, Rosanna Haught Phillips, Carolyn Wilson, Linda Putzulu, Susan Gates and Terry Snively as Substitute Teachers, countywide, effectively immediately. Michelle Forester, Substitute Secretary, countywide, effective immediately.

The following employments were recognized:

Tristan Willey as Cheerleading Coach at Tyler Consolidated Middle School, effective August 1, 2017. Joseph Semple as Science Teacher at Tyler Consolidated High School, pending a criminal background check.

Transfer Laura Miner from Multi-Categorical Special Education Teacher at Sistersville Elementary School to Multi-Categorical Special Education Teacher with Autism at Sistersville Elementary School, effective immediately.

Employ Adam Haywood as Math Teacher at Tyler Consolidated Middle School, pending a criminal background check.

Tricia Feldmeier, Director of Human Resources, recommended the termination of the following substitute custodians due to failure to respond to their continuing employment letters: Tyler Akers, Robert Archer III and Frederick Myers. She also recommended the termination of the following substitute Aide due to failure to respond to her continuing employment letter: Trace Billings

The following policy is under review: Tyler County Policy: IA Basic Instructional Programs.

The next Regular Meeting will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Tyler County Board of Education Office located on Dodd Street in Middlebourne.
