BY ED PARSONS - Staff Writer (eparsons@tylerstarnews.com) , Tyler Star News

Corley who has been a distance runner for the Silver Knights track team since his freshman year and will be working on his fourth letter when next spring rolls around will also be starting his second season as member of the Knights Cross Country team this fall after lettering last season.

Corley will be the first to tell you, " I'm not the most athletic person around and I'm not into football, basketball but no one loves to run anymore than I do, I am excited about Cross Country coming up and have been working some to improve my times, I have a great coach in Brenna Haggerty and I can honestly say I wouldn't want any other distance coach," said Gavin.

"All of my coaches have been very helpful during my years at TCHS, my track coaches Jill Lemasters and Joesph Semple are very helpful, they give excellent advice, have positive attitudes and encourage me too work hard to be the best I can," he added.

Senior Cross Country and Track distance runner Gavin Corley looks to impress in his final season at Tyler Consolidated High School.

Corley has been to the state track meet all three years running the open 1600 and as a team member of the 4x800. He has maintained a 3.2 grade point average throughout his school days at TCHS and is hoping to further his education upon graduation but is unsure at this point where but would like to enter the field of study of special education and possibly coach track and cross country.

He has set some goals for the coming year which include getting his 1600 time down to near four minutes and 30 seconds. His current best is 4:55, so he has some work to do but believes he can reach his goal. Other activities he enjoys are playing the guitar and singing and just hagging out with friends. He made note that his grandfather has a band that he may be interested in someday playing with.

Gavin is an interesting young man and a very polite person who had nothing but praise for his teachers, coaches and the A.D at Tyler Consolidated. He said he has truely enjoyed his time but is looking forward to what the future brings. I believe he will excell at whatever it may be. He has a younger brother (Spencer) who will be pushing him this year in the distance runs so it should make for some interesting races.

Gavin is the son of Mitch and Jonay Corley of Sistersville, Mitch is employed by the Tyler County Sheriff's department and his the Resource Officer at Tyler Consolidated High School.
