The Tyler Star News' athletes of the week for Feb. 8 are Silver Knights' Josey Jones and Dylan Roberts.
Jones, a sophomore guard, played tough in two consecutive games: an overtime loss to St. Marys on Tuesday (Jan. 31) and a one-point loss Thursday to Ravenswood, where she eclipsed the 20 point mark. On Tuesday, Jones lit up the scoreboard with 28 points. A couple of days later on Thursday, Jones hammered home 24 for a two game total of 52 markers. Jones also accounted for 14 rebounds, nine steals and eight assists while only having seven turnovers.
Roberts, who has been a steady player all season, had a big game on Friday night when he scorched the nets for 20 points which included five bombs from beyond the arch. Roberts has one of the better jump shots in the area and can pull up and shoot off the dribble. He also plays a nice floor game and isn't afraid to get in among the big guys or hit the floor for a loose ball.
His ball handling skills are also a major part of his game.
Congratulations goes to these two stellar players - Jones and Roberts. Special Honorable mention this week goes to several players. Quintin Richmond from Tyler Consolidated has had two straight big nights by scoring in double figures in points and rebounds. Silver Knights' Amanda Reynolds and JoLee Walton have also came up big in the past two games. From Paden City, Aaron Heasley had a 41 point outburst against Magnolia, while Hannah Loy continues to hit double figures in nearly every game.
Hayden Hizer, Trey Slider, and Chelsea Baker from Paden City make the honorable mention list as does the Silver Knights Peyton Kocher, Jace Reed and Griffin Phillips.
