2016 Was a Year to Remember

December 28, 2016
Tyler Star News

Tyler County has had an amazing 2016.

The Silver Knights' football team defeated Magnolia during regular season play and earned a spot in the first round of the state playoffs. TCHS' volleyball team was won sectional and regional titles.

Longtime lawman and Tyler County Sheriff Earl "Bob" Kendle is retiring after 38 years on the beat. During Kendle's time, this tireless and dogged investigator has not only taken a bite out of crime, but he's worked hard to hire more deputies for the sheriff's department.

On that note, political newcomer Brian Weigle was elected as sheriff and Joel Davis as Paden City Mayor. Sistersville Mayor Bill Rice was re-elected to another term. Elections were civil and peaceful with the candidates - winners and losers - still pledging to do what is best for Tyler County.

After much discussion, Sistersville General Hospital is going to be put out for bid next year.

Tyler County Schools were ranked as the second best school system of 55 counties in the Mountain State by Niche, a publication that ranks more than 8,000 school systems across the country.

Perhaps on New Year's Eve, offer a toast to Tyler County.

Maybe say a prayer that 2017 will be as eventful, prosperous and happy.
