Tyler Star News

The Tyler Consolidated Middle School Band performed their Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 13th in the auditorium at TCMS.

The event was attended by a large audience of parents, family, and community members. Selections performed by the sixth grade band were: Winter Medley (arr. by Larry Henry); First Christmas March (arr. by John O'Reilly); First Rockin' Christmas (arr. by John O'Reilly); and Star With Royal Beauty Bright; (an arrangement of "We Three Kings" by Jack Bullcock). Following the sixth grade performance, the seventh and eighth grade band took the stage and performed the following pieces: Christmas Fun (arr. John O'Reilly); Holiday Fanfare (an arrangement of "I Saw Three Ships" by Michael Story); Fum, Fum, Fum; ( a traditional Spanish carol, arranged by Michael Story); and Greensleeves (a 16th Century traditional English carol, arranged by Michael Sweeney). The sixth, seventh, and eighth grade bands then combined for the last selections. These seventy students performed: Jazzy Ol' Saint Nick (arr. by Douglas E. Wagner); and We Wish You A Rockin' Christmas (arr. by Donald Josuweith). It was an outstanding performance by both of the bands. Director Matt Jennings took time to thank the principal, Suzzette Miller and the guidance counselor, Linda Duncan for arranging the schedule so that the middle students may have band every day, something that has not occurred for a number of years. He also expressed his appreciation to the county's two elementary music teachers, Brian Bailey and Anna Carpenter for their support and commitment to the fifth grade band program, which began in Tyler County last year.

The combination of having band every day and starting band in fifth grade has really helped to improve the level of musicianship among the middle school bands," Band Director Matt Jennings said.
