Owen McKay
Owen Edward McKay, III, 79, of Princeton, died suddenly on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born September 25, 1937 in New Martinsville, WV, he was the son of the late Owen Edward McKay, Jr. and Hope Postlethwait McKay.
He was a graduate of Paden City High School and West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. Owen was a retired Pharmacist who loved his work. His career started with the Lohr family at Princeton Pharmacy and Bluewell Pharmacy. Eventually he and his good friend Burl Compton became the owners and operators of Hometown Pharmacy in Peterstown, WV and Narrows, VA. They operated these businesses for several years before selling to Rite-Aid. Following the sale they continued with Rite-Aid before semi-retiring. Owen slowed down but never quit completely. He enjoyed filling in on weekends or as needed for his good friends Roger and John Hickman at Hickman’s Pharmacy. His last pharmacy shift was five hours on the morning of his death.
Owen was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Pat McKay and one sister, Florence McKay Zucker preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sarah Frances Turner McKay of Princeton; one son, Owen Edward “Ed” McKay, IV and wife Karly of Smithfield, VA; one daughter, Sarah A. McKay of Cross Lanes, WV; three grand children, Eddie McKay, Molly McKay and Alex Macdonald; three sisters, Eileen Miller and husband Doug of Teays Valley, WV, Cora Bowers and husband, Scott and Mary Yoho and husband, Tim all of Paden City, WV; three brothers, Frank McKay of Wheeling, WV, Mike McKay of Paden City, WV, and Tom McKay and wife, Erline of Knoxville, TN.
In keeping with Owen’s wishes his body has been cremated and there will be no services.
