Marion Bailey

Marion M. Bailey, age 89, of Belmont, W.Va. (formerly of Middlebourne, W.Va.) died Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Care Haven of Pleasants.

She was born on September 30, 1927, in Moon’s Run, Pa., a daughter of the late Thomas P. and Opal Freeland Morgan.

She was raised in Middlebourne and graduated from Tyler County High School, where she was a member of the marching band playing trumpet. After high school she attended Salem College. In the mid-1950’s, she met Richard L. “Dick” Bailey while working as a waitress in Washington, D.C. He was the “love of her life” and they married in 1957 and were together almost four decades until his passing in 1995.

Marion was a retired Federal Employee who worked with the Office of the Surgeon General in Washington, D.C. and at the Pentagon for the Army National Guard; was a member of the Middlebourne United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful musician, mother, talented artist and was highly regarded in the medical profession. Marion liked to travel, sew and quilt, decorate her home and enjoyed her dogs. She also enjoyed collecting many pieces of local West Virginia glassware.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Richard Lake Bailey; son, Jennings Meek, Jr. and a step-daughter, Charlotte Bailey.

Survivors include three sons: John Meek of Conway, S.C.; Francis Bailey of Woodbridge, Va. and Jeffrey Bailey of West Union, W.Va.; one step-son: Dickie Bailey of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren: Robert, Christopher, Laura, Joshua, Brian, Matthew and Dakota; three great-grandchildren: one sister: Zepora Morgan Hughes of St. Marys, W.Va.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Sistersville, WV. There will be no visitation.

Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville.
