Sistersville appoints new City Recorder

By Staff | May 13, 2015

Sistersville Council appointed Chad Edwards of Cedar Run Road in Friendly during the monthly council meeting that took place May 11.

The council chose Edwards for several reasons, but chief among them was of his nine years of experience as the treasurer with the Pleasants County Human Society along with his masters degree in public administration and his bachelors of arts degree in political science with a minor in English.

It was unanimous, the feeling that he would be the perfect candidate for the job. Shortly after the council meeting, Mayor Bill Rice contacted Edwards to inform him of the decision and Edwards accepted. He is to start May 26 where current City Recorder Kari Huffman will train him to fill the position.

Audist Pancake, chairperson for the Sistersville Parks and Recreations division, gave an update on the pool. Audist reported that after one more spray out of the pool, it will be ready for paint. She stated that May 23 will be opening day which will double as a free day which is sponsored by the Sistersville Planning Committee. Mayor Rice also gave an update. He said that as of May 13, Hubbard Park is officially sold and payment will be delivered into the parks account thus allowing them to make a payment to MySplashPad. However, David Pancake, Co-chair for the Sistersville Parks and Recrecation board, stated that MySplashPad will not be able to keep their original deadline because of the time it took to get the funds necessary to complete the purchase of the coming splash pad. It will be completed later than intended but it will be completed, they are just unsure as of when due to scheduling.

Diane Myers was appointed to the library board.

Ferry announced a four day operating week with one pilot and two deckhands.

Sistersville Council came to an agreement on wages and employee appointments. Mason Rine has been appointed from a part time employee to a full time employee. Raises, to take effect on June 1, are $1 per hour for all full time employees for the exception for street and garbage employees who will get $1.50.
