Dennis, Hall lead Wildcats over Frontier

Andrew Dennis and Issac Hall combined on a three-hitter, that included 13 strike outs and 10 ground ball outs to lead Paden City to a 5-2 victory over the Frontier Cougars April 24 in New Matamoras.

The OVAC top ranked Class-A Wildcats wasted little time getting a run. After a pair of strikeouts to open the first frame, Luke Cooper blasted a double., and motored to third on a wildpitch. Zach Heasley would then follow with a walk and swiped second. Cooper would be sent home on a Michael Wilcox single to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Dennis would make quick work of the Cougars in the first three innings, however in the meantime the ‘Cats scored a run in the second. Kennedy Cain opened with a single and stole second. Craig Allen would then be given a free pass to first with a walk. He and Cain moved up a base before Hayden Hizer lofted a long fly to deep right scoring Cain. The Cougars got out of the inning without any further damage.

In the fourth inning Issac Hall doubled and waltzed home with a Allen double to give Paden City a 3-0 lead. However, Frontier scored twice in the bottom half to close to within a run with the help of two Paden City errors.

In the top of the fifth, the ‘Cats responded with two runs on three-hits and a stolen base. Levi Meadows singled and went to third on a Cooper single. Both Meadows and Cooper scored on a Wilcox single.

Wilcox

Dennis tossed the first six innings giving up two-hits, while striking out seven and walking two. Hall, picked up the save, striking out three and walking one in one inning of work.

Cooper and Wilcox each provided multiple hits, while Hizer, Allen, Cain, Hall and Meadows each added singles. Dennis helped himself at the plate as well moving a runner into scoring posistion with a nice sacrifice bunt that would later score, while Zach Heasley walked twice and Hizer a sacrifice fly.

Paden City racked up seven hits, but couldn’t find a way to score, while Clay-Battelle cashed in on eight runs on eight hits to beat Paden City, 8-0 in Blacksville April 23.

Heasley took the loss from the mound. He struck out one and didn’t walk a batter. Hizer, Meadows, Cooper, Wilcoix, Cain and Allen each poounded out a single, while Heasley drilled a double.

Paden City scored four runs in the first inning and Hayden Hizer tossed a two-hit 11 strike out 5-1 victory over Beallsville April 25 in the OVAC Class-A semifinal matchup at Paden City Park.

Hizer and Levi Meadows opened the game with free passes. Luke Cooper singled home Hizer and then Zach Heasley cleared the basses with a three-run shot to give the hosts a 4-0 lead after one inning of baseball. Beallsville scored two runs in the second inning without the benifit of a hit on two Paden City errors and a pair of walks.

The ‘Cats scored an insurance run in the fourth. Kennedy Cain singled and Andrew Dennis sacrifiscd Cain to second. Craig Allen, then knocked in Cain with a single. Allen and Luke Cooper led the way with a pair of singles, while Heasley jacked a three-run home run. Cain doubled and Craig Allen singled.

The Wildcats will move on to the OVAC Class-A championship in Wheeling at the I470 Complex against Bishop Donahue on May 1 at 7:30 p.m.
