The Shirley Volunteer Fire Department began a fundraiser on Nov. 14 to replace the tanker truck that was damaged beyond repair fighting a well pad fire at a Noble Energy site off state Route 18 near Josephs Mills in Tyler County.

The Shirley VFD sent out 180 letters to various oil and gas companies working in the area and have received five donations to date from the following oil and gas companies: Jay Bee Oil & Gas ($5,000), EQT ($1,000), Trenton Energy ($100), Stone Energy ($100), and Capstone Energy ($100). They also had a bake sale put on by the Doddridge County Watershed Association in which they raised $181. They would like to thank all the donors who have helped raise $6,481 of their goal of $212,000.

The Shirley VFD is still actively seeking donations in hopes of raising more money to further support their tanker fundraiser. They would like to remind the citizens of Tyler County that they operate on a very small amount of money that the state allots them per year. They receive no money from the taxpayers of Tyler County and do not bill for any services rendered. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and would ensure their ability to have the necessary equipment to serve in time of need.
