County swears in new probation officer

By Staff | Oct 22, 2014

Pictured is the Honorable Judge Mark A. Karl, Wetzel/Tyler County Probation Chief Probation Officer John Lantz, and Wetzel/Tyler’s newest, additional probation officer, Stephanie Moore.

The addition of another probation officer for Wetzel and Tyler counties was approved by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, Judge Karl, and the Honorable Judge David W. Hummel, according to Lantz. Lantz stated that the time the hiring of an additional officer was granted, Wetzel and Tyler counties were seeing more than 200 offenders, both adult and juvenile. Probation Officer Bryan Hostuttler, along with Moore, will oversee both adult and juvenile offenders.

Lantz, who remains the Chief Probation Officer for the area, will oversee only adult offenders. Lantz states that he foresees that the number of offenders in both counties will “just keep going up,” especially with recent state legislation, such as WV Senate Bill 371 that allows some offenders to have up to “two strikes against them before jail.”
