We aren't pompous enough to say we fully understand the county's finances. Honestly, we don't know if the county can afford more deputies.
But we do know that they are needed. The stories we report every week prove that the crime rate is increasing. More arrests are being made and with those arrests not only comes a safer community, but more paperwork and court time needed by the deputies. If they are doing administrative work, they cannot be on the roads protecting the citizens and visitors to Tyler County.
We hope the Tyler County Commissioners can find a way to fund some more deputies to help in the county's fight against crime.
