Blue Devils win over Silver Kights, 35-6

Tyler Consolidated's football team traveled to Pleasants County on Sept. 19 to take on the Blue Devils in a change-of-pace Thursday game, only to return home to Tyler County with the loss, 35-6.

Playing for the P.R.I.D.E. Trophy sponsored by the Friendly Lions Club, the Blue Devils scored early on a one yarder in for six points followed by the two point conversion pass to put eight points on their side of the scoreboard and take the lead, and scored once again in the first lengthen their lead.

Senior Jacob Highley put the Knight's only score of the game on the scoreboard at the top of the second quarter on a two yard run over the goal line for six points.

The home team scored three more times to take the P.R.I.D.E. Trophy and the win, 35-6.

"This was a tough loss for us," said Knight head coach, Ryan Walton. "Our kids played physical and did what we asked them too. They were totally spent when the game was over, they left everything they had out on that field. I can't ask any more of them than that."

"I think we came together as a football team at St. Marys. They fought for everything we got, and there's no way I can find fault with their effort. I'm very proud of them."

Tyler Consolidated achieved 22 passing yards and 95 rushing yards in the game for a total of 117 yards while St. Marys had 202 passing yards and 206 rushing yards for a total of 408 in the contest.

The Knights had seven first downs and were penalized 11 times for 81 yards in the game while the Blue Devils had 13 first downs and were penalized nine times for 80 yards.

Offensively, sophomore Jordan Baker completed five of nine passes for 22 yards. Senior Swen Scheidemantel caught five passes for 22 yards.

Highley led the yard getters for the Silver and Black with 91 yards on 23 carries. Baker rushed four times for 15 positive yards; Skyler Leasure had two carries for six yards; and Josh Ruble rushed four times for two yards.

"Defensively Highley made good on the other side of the ball as well with six solo tackles, four assists; Swen Scheidemantel, three solo tackles; Skyler Leasure, three solo tackles, one special teams; Kyle Frum, three solo tackles, two assists; Chase Cooper, three solo tackles; Cole Kocher, two solo tackles, three assists; Ryley Warner, two solo tackles; Jordan Baker, one solo, one assist; Josh Ruble, one solo, two assists; Troy Watson, one solo, two assists; Dillon Glover, one solo, one assist; Jace Reed, one solo; and Brandon Keys had one solo tackle.

On Friday the Knights, hungry for their first win of the season, will host Calhoun County who comes into the contest with the same 0-4 record as the Silver and Black.

"They have an extremely athletic quarterback who we have got to contain," coach Walton said.

"They have the same record as we do, so they're not walking into our place intimidated. We're as healthy as we can been this deep into the season and we need success."

"The bottom line is, we need to win. We've got to stay hungry and get something ignited."

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with Homecoming festivities taking place at half-time.
