Baseball Knights fall twice

April 3, 2013
Tyler Star News

The Silver Knight baseball team at Tyler Consolidated is finding it difficult to pick up wins here in the early part of the season with Mother Nature not cooperating on her end to help ease the situation at all. Mainly made up of young and inexperienced team members, the Silver and Black are working hard to find their niche, and turn their season around.

The Knights gained some experience, but fell to the Yellow Jackets of Williamstown on March 28, 8-1. First year head coach Rob Jones went with freshman Jordan Baker on the mound who wound up with the loss, striking out one batter, walking one and giving up three earned runs. Junior Evan Davis came on to close, throwing three strikeouts, walking three, and giving up four runs.

At the plate, Baker singled to go 1-3 on the day; Nathan Heintzman singled; and Isaac Michael singled to collect an RBI.

On Monday, the team played host to Bellaire St. John Central, coming up on the short end of the 6-4 score. Coach Jones went with senior Koty Martin at the pitcher's position who threw all seven innings. He struck out seven batters and walked four, giving up four earned runs in the process.

Offensively for the home team, Baker went 1 of 4 at the plate, scoring a run, and stealing three bases; Heintzman singled, brought a run home and stole three bases; Davis singled and doubled in the effort, had one RBI, scored once and stole a base; Martin hit two singles and stole two bases; Austin Thompson singled twice and grabbed a stolen base; Levi Henderson singled.

On April 2 the team was scheduled to play at Parkersburg Catholic and will see competition with St. Marys on April 4 in Pleasants County.
