Knights split with Valley

While the weather has done its best to play havoc with the baseball schedules in the Ohio Valley for the last month, Tyler Consolidated did manage to get a couple of games in at home last week.

The Silver Knight varsity baseball team played host to the Wirt County Tigers in their season opener in the cold on March 15.

Head coach Robby Jones and the Silver Knights gave it a good shot, but came up short on the scoreboard, 8-6 when the game was done.

Senior Koty Martin started in the number one position for the Silver, walking four in four innings. Junior Evan Davis came on for three innings, striking out two and walking three. Offensively for the home team, Austin Thompson doubled for an RBI; Levi Henderson scored two runs; Austin Brown singled, scored and knocked in a run; Tyler Knox singled, doubled and collected two RBI’s; Martin hit two singles and scored a run; and Nathan Heintzman singled twice.

On March 22 the Knights hosted the Ritchie County Rebels in another cold experience on the diamond, and wound up falling to their visitors 24-0 to complete their day.

The Valley Lumberjacks visited at Knight Stadium on March 23 for a double header, splitting the wins with the Knightmen when all was said and done.

Tyler Consolidated went with Martin on the mound in the first game, pocketing the their first win of the season, 11-2, with the senior pitching six strikeouts and four walks.

At the plate for the Silver and Black, Davis singled twice and collected an RBI; Martin singled and doubled; and Baker singled, doubled and brought home two runs.

In the second game, Valley stepped up their play, taking the high scoring affair, 17-14. Davis took the loss for the Silver on the mound with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Baker singled three times and had three RBI’s; Nathan Heintzman and Isaac Michael each singled twice and collected an RBI.

The Knights are scheduled to host Williamstown on March 28 at 5 p.m.
