Columbine was fundamental in creating a nationwide concern for creating a safer school for our children. Nearly 13 years later, with an even larger death toll, the Newtown tragedy occurred. So now the question that weighs heavily on everyone's mind is, "Where do we go from here?"
Although solutions are never clear, it is important that the parents, schools, and communities band together to protect our children.
I think it is important for parents, especially, to be tolerant of any changes that schools implement to provide children with a more secure environment.
We have heard many parents complain regarding security measures that they have to endure to enter their child's school.
On the other hand, how would we feel knowing anyone could just walk into our schools?
Unfortunately, it's a different experience for the present day child than it was for their parents or grandparents. However, these changes aren't meant to harm, but only to protect.
So let's all be a bit more understanding and work together to provide a more secure school, and even better yet, a safer community.
